Hey everyone, I'm on 75/75 right now, but could save $10 or $20 a month by moving to 50 or 25 instead. Its just me and my GF, no kids/multiple tv's etc. We watch netflix and hbogo while I play some online games.

I'm thinking even 25/25 would be plenty... at 75 I still see Netflix and HBOGO go into SD mode from time to time so i really doubt its the bandwidth on my end. Would it get worse with the slower speed though?
 
25/25 is plenty enough for streaming 2x Netflix HD movies at the same time. I'd go for the slower speeds personally.

Honestly cap matters more to me than speed. I just went from 108 to 28 down because the first company was strict as hell about the cap and overages while the second one isn't (so far). Sure stuff downloads slower but its worth it when I don't have to watch the meter all month.

This. I'll take a slower uncapped connection any time over something that's capped.

Thankfully we got the best of both worlds here, FTTH uncapped. In fact they used to have caps on the packages above 50/30 and they recently got rid of them. Can get up to 250/30... uncapped!

ISPs in the US throttle Netflix (and soon more sites) anyway, so speed does not matter much.
 
I have 15/15. It was the lowest cost speed they offered. I don't need much for browsing, online games, and the occasional download.

I have all of the movie channels from FiOS and Netflix for blu-rays. I don't have a need for streaming content or a high speed connection for it.
 
Just went from 25/5 to 50/50 plan with no increase in price (sign new contract)
Netflix is happier. on 25/5 it would get indecisive on the resolution. Now it jumps straight to hidef
 
Wow 20GB cap that's retarded. I used like 212GB down and 83GB up in the past week without even trying. I'd hate having to constantly monitor that and try to do everything to not go over. .

I've been on 15/5 for years now and it's fast enough.

Yep also have 15/15 and Netflix still works ok while my son watch's youtube and so one.

I think 25/25 is now the slowest if you sign up. 15/15 does not even show up anymore but we still have it.

I have 7/.7 and it is plenty. The upload sucks, but the down is fine.

75!!! Are you serious?!?!
 
Irks me since the days of the slowest modems, as an end user there are no simple cheap software that shows what is messing up my game/download/ etc so I never know who to complain to.

$10 no, but $20 yes. Easy question.
 
3mbps will browse most of the web with no problem at all. 6mbps can be sufficient for multiple users, unless they are all simultaneously streaming video. 15mbps is enough for someone to watch HD Netflix while other people are also browsing without any issue. 25mbps is enough for others to browse while even two or three simultaneous HD streams are going.

Any slow speeds experienced otherwise are not due to the total maximum bandwidth allotted to your connection, but other factors. 75mbps? LOL. The web is not sufficiently developed to actually utilize that kind of end-user bandwidth the vast majority of the time. It just isn't required. You'll have to actually put in some effort to use up all of that bandwidth.

I have a 30 meg down, 10 meg up cable connection at the moment without any caps. For two people, this is still overkill. There has never been any situation where it has been insufficient for us, and I do plenty of downloading, streaming, gaming, etc. Of course, not all connections handle heavier usage equally, so you may also want to consider a better router if multiple users is a concern.
 
I like to be able to stream HD netflix, play Destiny on the PS4, AND patch Star Citizen, or doing some other large file download/upload in the background.

75/75 works great for me. It's only $10 more a month than 50/50. Going to 150/150 would be an extra $50+ though. 75/75 is the sweet spot for me.

Have you looked at the data usage? I bet its lower than you think. Most people over think how much they need.
 
I went from 50/25 briefly to 50/50, then to 25/25to save $10/mo, and I don't miss the speed any. The biggest thing I do with my connection is download Linux ISOs every few months, and listen to internet radio.

My biggest bottleneck is my Monoprice Realtek N300 USB wifi, that's only getting 2Mbit/sec with my new Buffalo WHR-600D with the newest beta DD-WRT.

Windows reports a 144Mbit/sec link speed, which is probably max for the connection, I have 20Mhz selected for channel width. Don't know why the throughput is so bad.

With my E2500 running Tomato in the same location, I could get 5MB/sec over the wifi with 40Mhz channel width selected.
