Heres the config
Eclipse cd8454
JL Audio 500/1
JL Audio 300/4
Adire Koda 6.1 components
Infinity kappa's 3 ways 6x9
2 12" Adire Shiva subs


I adjusted the amps the way jl recommended on there site. Honestly, I can't hear much of a difference over using the internal amp in the eclipse deck.

Also there is a lot of hissing coming from the speakers.


Any idea's what I could do to make this setup sound at least half decent to justify the huge price tag it cost me?

I was thinking of bringing it in a reputable car audio shop, and having them tune it.

the hissing you're hearing is because you're amplifying a low quality signal, more than likely. It's more common in low quality HU's. Try adjusting the gain some more.

That, or find a friend who is professional. Or make friends with a professional at a shop.

Lots of professional shops do a shoddy job, so you have to be careful, just like any other service industry.

Well I adjusted the line input voltage on the amps from low to high (jl says low is 2v high is for 8v, my HU puts out 8) and it helped reduce the hissing a bit but its still there.

Going to try some more things after I eat, been installing this all day...

Well its not to bad now. I took off the high pass filters on the 300/4, since my HU only puts out highs for those channels, and that helped even more.


JL's web site has some great tutorials, gonna have to spend the same amount of time tweaking it then I did installing it.

you grounded the amps in the same spot correct? make sure you dont have a ground loop.

did you run your RCA's next to the power wire? poorly insulated RCA's will get static from the power wire...

1. check grounds
2. use interconnects if you've just got regular RCA's.
3. lower your gains.

No I didn't ground the amps at the same spot. Ones grounded at the rear left of the trunk, the other on to the left front of the rear deck. What do you mean by a grounding loop?

Also yes the rca's are passing next to the power wire, but they are double sheiled rca's.

Equipment isn't everything. Install & tuning the eq accounts for 60% of how your sound system sounds.

You should have to turn up your deck pretty high to reach maximum SPL from your speakers; ie: 35/40 on the deck and adjust the amp's gains to match.

Adjust your gains with your deck at 3/4. Turn up your gains until it clips, then back off slightly.

Although, it honestly sounds to me like you have your + and - reversed on your amp. I have done it before, thnkfully nothing fried. Never hook anything up when in a rush, drunk, or hungover.

I'm using 14 gauge to the front speakers, and the rear speakers the cross overs are plugged right in using the wire on them. My subs are using 10gauge wires for each one.

Are you talking about hte power wires, or speaker wires? Either way everything is hookup where it should be.
