Fingerprint Reader Software

I hope Peripherals is the right forum for this thread . My HP Pavillion dv526ea laptop came with Vista 32 and included an AuthenTec AES2501A Fingerprint Reader supported by Verisoft Access Manager . The Verisoft software is no longer supported , and I would like to use something else . Is there a relatively easy way to somehow link the Fingerprint Reader to a different "log on" software ?

Thanks bruceb for all that good info . I checked , and already had the driver version installed as per recommendation of the first link . I gather that there is no such utility which can make a connection between the Authentec and a different program like RoboForm or Lastpass ?

I can not say. Your best bet is check the websites of those companies, see what they have in software for Vista or Windows 7 (the software for Vista should work under Win 7)

My lappie (Lenovo T60) has a fingerprint reader. I also use Roboform, and can see no rational reason to link the two. The FP reader works on boot. It is very sensitive - even the correct finger is "X" if the pressure and angle are not exactly right. Roboform is all set with hundreds of passwords - so the FP reader would interject another layer to slow down website access. I find Roboform stored, encrypted passwords are much faster and more efficient than the FP reader.

Lenovo has drivers and software for their FP readers on their website.

Thanks bruceb and corkyg . The Fingerprint Reader is sensitive on my HP laptop too - I often have problems getting it to accept the fingerprint . I'm sure using it would slow the process too . However , if these keyboard logging programs are a possibility , then the Finger Print Reader should provide a much higher level of security against them . This being my main concern .

Key loggers are not too hard to neutralize. A good AV suite will do that. Usage has a great deal to do with such hazards. My laptop exists primarily for travel. The rest of the time, it simply rests and gets turned on now and then for updates, etc. It is usually only connected to the Internet when I need to do that. Combine that with aggressive defenses and key loggers are not that great a threat.
