I was about to register on a Jeep forum to ask some questions, and I open the rules....

Banned Users: If you have been banned and register again you acknowledge and agree to pay a $5,000USD reinstatement fee. By clicking on agree you accept to pay this fee and agree to pay the fee immediately after registering with a valid check made payable to JeepForum.com PO BOX 911 San Marcos, Texas 78667. Payment of this fee does not exempt you from being banned again and you agree not to try to recover the fee if banned again under any circumstances. You also agree that any disputes will be resolved in the Hays County Texas court system.

Spammers: By clicking Agree you acknowledge and accept that for every spam you place in a post, thread, gallery comment, review comment, or private message you agree to a $1000 fee per spam message and acknowledge the offending spam will be deleted immediately. We define spam as any advertisement, promotion effort or marketing effort by a non-registered Vendor. You agree to pay the fee immediately after the spam offense with a valid check made payable to JeepForum.com PO BOX 911 San Marcos, Texas 78667. You also agree that any disputes will be resolved in the Hays County Texas court system.

Well at least you could rest assured knowing a majority, if not all of the active members, have not been banned before.
If there are any who have been permabanned and are active again, you know they are genuinely rich and not faking it. :p

I doubt they try to enforce it but most people would stop if they got a notice that they now owed the website a few grand. It's most likely just something that allows them to scare people that refuse to abide by their terms of service.

I'm a member over there and it's actually a pretty good site. There's quite a bit of technical knowledge.

I'm a member over there (not very active at all, more of a lurker) and haven't had any issues.

Want to screen out spammers?
Just add SMS verification. You MUST put in your mobile phone number and the server will send you a code in a text message that you must put in to activate your account. :D

What's so worth it on these forums that someone would pay $5,000 to get reinstated after being banned?

I think they mean if you try to come back under a different alias, IP,....you pay 5k.

Good luck trying to get people to pay 5k though.

That's pretty strict, but it sounds more like a scare tactic than anything else.

So the forum can get hacked and all of our numbers can be out in the wild. Or even worse, make us less anonymous online? How could I troll knowing that it would be easy to track my ass down..? D:
