Hello all,
Someone hacked my paypal account the other day.
Ok for the question, It was suggested that I completely wipe out my hard drive. (not an option).
What can I do to see what info would be criminals can dig up from my PC?
I'm sorry, this is probably not a question that should be asked. But for security reasons I would like to delete any such info in the event of a breach in my system.
Thanks for any help.
Neil

First thing you have to do is send $1,000 to an account in Tanzania. You will then receive $1,000,000! Then broadcast your SS#, address, DOB, and CC#s across the net. This action, and this action alone will return your paypal info. Now get!

First elt's start with what you are doing currently to protect your system.

Ignore jackass up above me, you are asking a serious question that should be addressed.

For starters,
Maybe purely basic? I run Grisoft Free AVG, along with the typical XP updates and firewall. Never click on or open unknown e-mails.
That's about it.

Paypal is investigating this right now. As far as my bank and the credit reporting agencies go there is nothing fishy otherwise. Just a one time use of 4 charges. My bank thankfully will recoupe the money and Paypal is on there own. But I'm still filing a police report and involving an investigator of my own because I want to see someone pay for this type of crap. Not simply see Paypal file and insurance claim and have the poor sap think he got away with something.

Peace
Neil

If they hacked into your PC then:

First - put up a firewall.
Second, run a virus checker.
Do a file search by date to locate any files that may have been installed and also read
If you are unsure of the file, check on it from another system.

Now determine what programs you have on you system that have personal info. This is your system, therefore you should know what is on it.

Figure that any personal info is suspect if not encrypted and there has been access to those files/directories since you were compremised.
