Finding it challenging to ride my motorcycle...

A couple months ago after talking with the wife we decided to try to sell my 2014 Ducati Multistrada 1200S. I put an ad on CL and got a few scammers trying to get me to pay for vin check services but that was it. Then the coronavirus hit and pretty much nobody is looking to buy a motorcycle right now or they are looking for a killer deal. I don't need to sell it, as it is paid for, but I am not riding it much and I want the space in my garage. I did put a new battery in it about a month ago along with a new front tire. It really is in perfect condition with only 16,500 miles on it and it just had the major service done last summer.

Anyway, selling it is on hold so yesterday I took it out for a ride for the first time in about a month. Really enjoyed being back on the bike but I only rode it for about an hour. I guess I just need to keep riding it every other week and keep it on the battery tender in the meantime until this pandemic blows over and I can try to sell it again. Sucks because this would be the perfect time to sell a bike.

Anyone else have stories of not driving their vehicles? 🙂

Shouldn't the title be "Finding it challenging to SELL my motorcycle..." ?

Me not riding it the reason I decided to sell it... but I’ve since stopped trying to sell it. Now it is just sitting mostly and I’m back to finding reasons to ride it. Trouble is, I have nowhere to go.

That's basically all I did when I had mine. I'd ride about a hour once a week. I got tired of riding the same roads. To combat that I would ride it to work and it was better because the ride had some purpose. Still it wasn't the same anymore. I didn't have the desire anymore. I sold it and I don't have the itch any longer.

Same, although I think I’d get back into it if 1. I lived somewhere with fewer cars and 2. Had motorcycle friends to go on cruises with.

You have to get rid of that cargo storage container on the back. Just seeing that makes me depressed. You have a street bike not a road bike meant for the long haul.

That's a nice bike, ever have any mechanical issues with it? I sold my sportbike for the same reasons. It mostly sat in the garage in the way. I intended to ride it to work, but I have a half hour commute and honestly sitting in a climate controlled car with music and a cup of coffee is better. Weekend rides were fun, I used to ride with a group, but we always did the super fast rides at higher speeds, and that got old after a while.

I like your bike. If I bought another it would be something the wife and I could take for 3 day weekend trips. A bit of power and comfort without being a cruiser. She used to ride also, but couldn't always keep up, but she would have to if she was sitting behind me.

My ZX-11D1 is shamefully gathering dust.
This year, my mileage on my 08 CBR1K has been fairly low.
My normal riding occurs from 5am to 9am weekends. Have a 120 Mile loop that I would do and have verbal arguments with deer. kept the stock exhaust and this way I'm not waking up anyone or disturbing neighborhoods. Once the the folks start filling up roads and the local precincts finish having breakfast I would head home.

I only enjoy riding when the roads are empty. Riding in traffic bores the hell out of me and all I can think about is how its wasting tire tread. I hate highway riding or any other sort of straight line nonsense.

Weekend volunteer work took a HUGE chunk out of my riding and Running routines over the past 2 years.
Nowadays I'm lucky if I can squeeze in some twisty work on the nearby section of my "weekend loop"

I'm not even close to be bored with the bike. My big issue opportunity. Fortunately I am able to squeeze in enough riding to keep thoughts of "why do I keep this thing" away.

I kinda want to restore the Ninja again (restored it in 2012 prior to parking it). Never got around to selling it because I had no interest in dealing with craigslist or ebay or any of that nonsense. In the back of my head, I had the idea of eventually converting it over to sport tourer work. Range per tank is 260+ miles and that bike soaks up miles effortlessly. Would need to complete refresh the suspension and replace a ton of gaskets since it has been sitting for so long. Toss on a couple of bar risers.

I decided to sell both of mine this year as well. I'm buying a cheap 2009 Cayman 6MT that should be here next week. I've had bikes forever and I thought it was time for me to try something different. Plus my wife would be able to use it as well which I think she'll really like.

Man, that top case was the best investment for commuting, which I have done a fair amount of on this bike. It holds a laptop, change of clothes, pair of shoes and lunch easily. Plus, you can toss your helmet and gloves in there and lock it. I’ve had that case on it since day one and almost never take it off. Infinitely superior to a backpack or tank bag.

Minor issues mostly. The fuel gauge sending unit has been replaced twice under warranty and the front brake master cylinder was also replaced under warranty but that’s pretty much it. I’ve gone through a couple sets of tires and just replaced the battery but other than that it has just been routine maintenance.

Eh, isn't that more of a dual sport/sport touring bike?

It is actually an adventure bike but I didn’t buy it with the intention of ever taking it off road. It is so good on the road and so tall and comfortable and capable in the mountains and canyons and that is why I fell in love with it. I’ve ridden it on the tight twisty mountain roads here but most of the mileage has just been commuting to and from work.

It has panniers and a larger top case that came with the bike but I’ve never used them. I had intentions of doing some long distance touring on this bike but just haven’t gotten around to it.

It’s an amazing bike. Electronically adjustable suspension, different ride modes, traction control and ABS. 150hp 1200cc L-Twin, liquid-cooled motor, Brembo brakes, stiff steel trellis frame. It is like a tall, comfortable sport bike but it isn’t overly heavy. Handling is quick and light and it begs you to push it hard. It will also lift that front wheel pretty easily if you really get into the throttle.

I'm by and large in the same boat. I really enjoy my V-Rod, absolutely hate riding in the bay area. Haven't had much time for weekend rides over the last couple years, so it sits in the garage gathering dust.
I plan on moving cross country in two or three years, and I'm not sure it's worth carting the bike along.

I'm kinda in the same boat. I have owned a motorcycle every year of my life since I was 7 years old. Bought my current bike back in 2012 and for the last two years, I have maybe put a couple of hundred miles on it if that. I used to put an average of 23k on my bikes each year. I just don't have the time with work and kids plus I own 3 other vehicles.

I've been tempted to put my Harley up for sale but I hesitate because I fear that if I sell it, then in another year or so I will want a bike again and spend more money. Mine is currently paid for and I've invested over 20k into it. That's the other thing; I bought the bike for 14k, put over 20k into it over the years (upgrades) and KBB has it sitting around 8k to 9K so it would be a big loss too.

I'll most likely keep it around longer.
