Finding Internships Is Such a Pain

So many internships have a requirement that you are a junior or a senior. For us underclassmen in college, that is a real pain. I'm trying to use some connections to get me something decent, but it is not going well at all.

Has anyone here ever worked for a Congressman/Senator in your home district (as opposed to Washington D.C.) Is it boring working there?

i don't think it matters so much if it's boring or not. working for any kind of government official looks good on the resume.

If you can't get an internship, then you'll have to spend all summer having fun. That'd be a shame wouldn't it?

don't let frustration get to you. landing your first internship can take months

learn from your pass interviews and invest in 1-2 decent suits

you will eventually find your place

yes, i've heard its very boring. but u have to do it if you want to work on capitol hill or for your local politicians

dress up and be mature for your interview no matter what it is...I had an interview, and some of the others interviewing for the position were dressed in big baggy jeans, piercings out the wazoo(and in) and smelled like all kinds of BO...

not that your being discriminated for your looks, well i guess you are, but people want you to look professional in the workplace.

I had no problems finding engineering internships. Aren't government internships usually unpaid or min. wage? That sucks for you guys.

Oh well, I guess that's what you get for entering an overly-saturated field.

What field engineering? Some are easier then other...I have no problems getting a job in Info Systems, already getting 401k too...Government Contracting is the life for me 🙂

I don't know what you're talking about. Mine stalk me. I'm a CS major, but I'm better known for my networking skills than my programming.... hell... even my grades are medoicre....

I'm an EE at a relatively well-ranked school in a metropolitan area. Our classes suck, but the job scene makes up for it. It isn't uncommon for $3200/mo internships and more for co-ops, while still in school.
