Finding duplicate MP3

Hi there

I'd like to find duplicate MP3s in my collection (over 100GB). Ideally, the program will analyze a given directory/sub-directories and generate a list of MP3 which are unique.

So, if I have multiple copies of a certain song, but the id3, filename, filesize, song length, bitrate, etc could be different, I want the "best" copy (which I define, eg. best bit rate).

If the software automatically deletes duplicates etc, I can live with that ... I'll just have to make a copy prior to running the program.

Any suggestions? Previous threads have turned up sw that doesn't do exactly what I want or is not as versatile as I need it to be.

Unfortunately, that's not a good solution. I can have 2 mp3 files of the same song but at different bit rates -- that would cause a different CRC, file name etc. Thus all the programs listed will not be able to find stuff like that.

And that's the sort of program I need. The filename WILL be different, the bitrate COULD be different, the ID3 tag COULD be slightly different (same song, but remix, duet version, etc).

Any other suggestions?

Theoretically something that could use track identification ala Gracenote-like technology could work but I don't know of any non-commercial proggy that does it.

Whoops. You are correct. I've used it for so long as a paid program that I forgot they still offer a free version.

OP is looking for something that will analyze MP3's, determine if they are same tune, then decide which one sounds better..

I don't think such software exists outside the mind of someone in Hollywood...
