Finding a place to get rid of (read:recycle) a monitor is frustrating as a student

I just talked to the local staples and asked the customer service rep if they knew of anywhere that had a computer recycling program in effect, and she just made a long gurking noise at me in response, not understanding the concept.

Anyone know of a place to get rid of a CRT in North York / Toronto ?

If you're a student, put up flyers and give it away for free. I'm sure somebody would want it.

Office Depot. You can bring in 1 piece of computer hardware to be recycled for free.

I just called them about it. Staples=Office Depot here. Chick had no idea what I was talking about.

I'll try another store.

Try the town/city waste transfer station. Many of them take CRTs for recycle. Of course, they probably won't let you in unless you're a resident.

you could alway try salvation army or goodwill or something like that.

The thing doesn't really work though, and I don't have a vehicle very often. Hmm.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

I feel your pain aswell. I have a lot of broken computer parts and I still wonder what I can do with these because they can easily be recycled. It pisses me off to see things go into a dumpster because people don't know what thier doing/don't give a sh!t about recycling. They have computer hardware recycling centers (one in SF) and they recycle computer parts, though I don't know where it is. You might have to look online for computer recycling, I heard companies like IBM and Dell recycle computer parts but you might have to buy one of their computers.
