Finding a Compatible Ethernet Card

Hi, I may be having problems with my network card and I'm thinking of getting a new one. However, I have an Epox 8k7a mobo, and I think I recall that board having some problems with netgear cards. I currently and using a Linksys card, but would like to go with a different brand. Is it true that Netgear causes some problems?

If the card you are using works, then the problem with performance isn't the card but a Windows or driver issue..

If you really pick up an AOpen NIC if they have them in your area. They work great and are very inexpensive.

Do not get a Netgear NIC. Especially with the 8K7A. I have that exact motherboard (using it right now!) and the Netgear FA311 does cause problems. I returned to the store for a refund and grabbed an Intel Pro 100+ from work, and it' working great! I've had bad experiences in the past with Linksys NICs, which is why I haven't used them for several years. I would stick with either Intel or 3com, but you could always try something else. I would also stear clear of SMC. Their low end NICs are pieces of junk.

yes, INTEL PRO 100+ are very good NICs, you really can recognize the difference in handling data in a network, response- and average-speed-wise.

and don't touch NETGEAR, everything else, but not NETGEAR.

I had a lot of trouble with my Linksys 10/100 nic. It was really just a pain. I guess not really 'problems', but a lot of inconveniences. It was just funky. Now I have a 3com 905B nic and its a lot better, I highly recommend it...
