Finders keepers! Homeless man can keep $70G.

Six months after a homeless man found at least $70,000 in cash abandoned in a Texas park, the local City Council has ruled he can keep the money. MyFoxAustin reports the Bastrop City Council voted unanimously to let Timothy Yost keep the bag of 70 $100 bills and 40 kruggerand coins he found in a wet plastic bag January 18th along the Colorado River.
Though Yost will receive the money within 48 hours, he will not be able to access it immediately as he is in jail on a public intoxication charge.
Oops but on heck of a canteen fund at the city jail.

Good for him. I found $220 here on the floor at work about a year ago. I thought to myself, what am I going to do, email everybody and ask? Everybody will want to claim it. So stupid that you have to report lost money, unless it has some sort of personal identification like an ATM receipt to go along with it - that's a different story.

The honest thing to do is tell the receptionist to email everyone saying that money was found in the building, and if you want to claim it to contact them with details about amounts and location. Have the receptionist contact you with any details.

in other news, there's a guy going around town looking for him and calling people "Friendo"

you dont have to, some people are just naive enough to do it

This guy is a dumbshit.
They only confiscated the money cause he went to the bank to exchange the wet bills for dry ones.
DUH!!!
Also there was 40 kuggerand coins worth $1600 each so thats $64,000.

Did you not read the story? He's going to buy booze with the money and be right back where he started.

So? People are free to do whatever they want if it makes them happy.

It ain't going to make him happy. Hell, he's likely to buy all the booze he always wanted to buy, but couldn't afford, and then OD.

Best case scenario, he uses this money to get to Key West. Being a wino in Key West >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Being a wino in texas.

Definitely a possibility (on OD'ing). :-/

Depends some people are homeless due to catastrophic health issues which could have been out of their control and others fall into your categorization.

And in this case, the catastrophic health issue is not being smart.
