Financial question regarding apartments.

2 friends and myself were getting an apartment (3 bedrooms) we had met all the requirements (30+K combined income a year) we were all on the final step of reserving the apartment and gave them the $100 credit check, check. The lady was on the phone and came back saying that they won't accept 'part time' workers. Apparently one of us has to be 'full time' yet there is no where in writing that it says that you have to be full time. We even make more than full time people sometimes. The apartment was only $740 a month with us pulling in $~45K a year combined

Is this logical / reasonable? Or did we just get the run-around?

We went to another apartment place and they said that they were shocked to hear that. As long as you have the required income you should be able to move in.....?

How old are you? It's not really moral (or legal), but most landlords prefer older, more established tenants. In this case, your age may have worked against you as much as your income.

well it was for the credit check and the app fee..... in the end we get $75 going towards the 2nd months rent..... that we will not have. heh.

$740 a month!!! $740 a month won't get you a decent studio apartment in the SF Bay Area.

There's your problem. You're considered high risk to the landlord. Parties, noise, wrecklessness, ect. Not saying that you in particular would do this, but others in your age group have set up quite reputation.

If the landlord isn't hard up for cash, and doesn't think that it's a problem renting the place out, they'll wait for a mid to late twenties, professional, married couple with no kids to apply to the place.


Sorry, but age descrimination sucks, and it's rather hard to prove 🙁

i'm close to detroit, lol.... that's why it's 740... =\
 
here we have pre-leasing. $150 to $300 for getting your name on a list to get in the apartment. high demand student places.
