I will mention the social security age thing with him.
I will make sure he knows the range is 62-67.
I will have him log into the Social Security website and check his benefit info.
He hasn't made much money his entire life, so I bet his benefit is small.
Benefits are based on how much you pay in, correct?

Since his full retirement age appears to be 67, starting to collect at 62 will be at a 30% reduction in the payments, instead of waiting until his full retirement age.
