Seems every so often people ask what to do with 401ks or there's the occasional bragging of stock picks. Would be nice to consolidate all this potentially useful info into a category.

Thanks!

Wouldn't The Motley Fool forums be a better place for money advice? After reading some of the investing threads in ATOT, I'd be worried about the kinds of advice people would be handing out.

It doesn't have to be limited to personal finance. Real estate is another popular topic around here and that's fine too.

CPA & Eaglekeeper's annual tax threads would be perfect in this category. We can also expand it to include legal issues as well. We got a few lawyers in here.

I agree with you that not all advice is good, but there's a lot of smart people here that are genuinely willing to help others. I think it would be a useful addition.

A separate Finance forum or sub-forum would be great...

...as long as there are disclaimers ;)

I think it is best if that stays in OT. We don't want too many subforums, and that seems like one that isn't really needed.

Bondboy has some pretty good points. Tax threads, threads about real estate, stocks, mutual funds, etc. could all be consolidated into a finance forum. Most Off Topic folks don't bother with these things because they're too "serious" ;)

Well, kind of, but I've noticed posts from PAB and he gets flamed, I'd also like to be able to discuss finances in a forum where it wouldn't seem like bragging or talking about money e-penises.

Fat Wallet has a Finance forum, but it's turned into an App O Rama fest, it'd be great to have a forum that wasn't so intense like Motley Fool's stuff, etc...

There are some members here that are very good with $ and I think it'd be an interesting forum.

I can't imagine a thread in Off Topic asking someone to explain inverse yield curves of corporate bonds with sock puppets getting many serious answers

LOL.

I'd visit a finance forum on a regular basis myself. I need to make some money to finance my upcoming "Revolution" :D
