I'll show you a picture of what a proper fixed up 240 (Silvia conversion) look like later, I'm at work. Something that you WISH you car could be (no, this is not mine, just something that was at my friend's shop that I thought is cool).

I too do tinker with cars (it was planes before), and I do it for fun, not out of necessity. Yes, modding is a passion, and you may have it, that's why I want to current pictures to admire and comments. You know what the big difference between that MR-2 and your 240SX? Horse power, and a lot of it. There's a difference between wanna be, and just be. Show me boost, show me aftermarket ICs, BOVs, show me anything that indicates your car is "unique" other than hanging a filter and fart can and a few pieces of fiberglass here and there then declare it "different". You know, every time I take a dump, it's always different.

The merits of me paying for maintenance is because I value my time and don't really care much for what you'd call "inflated prices". Yes, to some extent, but like I said it's not for everybody.

Your wife divorced you probably because you keep telling her that everything will get better, but it never will. You're miserable, based on your retorts. Try to look for the positive in life will ya?

At the end of the day, I'll still be driving my entry level BMW and you can go play with your top of the line 240SX.

Well I found a second wife and have probably forgotten the names of more women than you have even gone on a date with.

If you valued your time, you'd not be at a dealership for work.

You enjoy that BMW I am sure your parent's are proud of it. Too bad your car friends aren't honest with you.

Also I hate to break it to you but that 400HP MR2 is nothing, I can simply bolt on a turbo and hit about that power on a stock bottom end on regular gas. The 240SX is a freaking wonderful platform.

My car is unique in that you will be hard pressed to find another like mine. I have not gotten into the engine yet due to just buying a house and not wanting to put it on credit or tap myself out.

Go have fun talking about your friends cars and live vicariously through them your wife is probably banging one of them while you bust your ass for your '6 figure income'.

I am sure the rest of us would love to see how much of a model she is though. You more than likely have one 'myspace angle' pic though.

I've been around the import scene, I know a bit about it, and you spending $25K on a 240 with no engine swap is pure fantasy.

No I have spent about $25k.

What do you think a real 1998 240SX SE goes for with less than 70k on the clock?

Most in the 'import scene' are used to beaters and salvage titles. Also almost everyone has claimed to have owned a muscle car, a hot import, etc....when in reality they had a 6 cyl camaro and a honda accord.

You know what I just realized, you're always gonna be you. Why bother!? You made so much assumptions about other people and put so much generalization into your thoughts that it's just ridiculous to carry on any meaningful discussion with you. I bid you farewell for now, and will not answer to anymore of your foolish posts.

And who is this 'we' that you spoke of? It's only you that's being a douche. I never made any claims of ownership to the fixed up cars mentioned, they're there as reference and I work on my buddies car for FUN. So I can say "we" when mentioning the work in progress. There comes time when people need to grow up and out of the "import scene", I suggest you do the same.

I'll post some pictures for other people to see later, just because it's cool. From the look of what you have posted regarding your car, allow me to say this with utmost sincerity, you're full of shit.

And you may want to run it by your 'friends' since you have no clue. You were very smart to bail out of this discussion since it's obvious you have gone from thinking free maintenance was important to trying to claim to be a race car builder to now back pedaling since you are over your head.

The 'we' is the 'we' you used talking about the cars that apparently only your friends built.

You said I am in the import scene...yet you drive an import and hang with those that modify imports....

What the fack are you talking about? Learn the difference between ricing and racing.

Free maintenance - I can afford it, and it's worth it, frees up my time.
Working on cars - because I have free time
Your POS = POS

Where did I create any conflicts or back paddling? Do you always make up shits to make you look right or you just assume everything and think that you're right?

Alky, love 240s, ever thought about a RB26DETT swap?

lease? wait, you dont own the car at all then? you pay 25k to rent it for 39 months, and then have nothing to show for it afterwards? with an owned car you can sell it or trade it for your next one? am i missing something here? leasing sounds kind of dumb...

The lease is costing me $4,000 + (505x39)= $23,695

Ok, so if I bought the car for $42,5 + tax/fees that comes out to about $46,000 out the door.

Lets say I drive the car for 39 months, and say I put 40,000 miles on it (which is what the lease allows)

At the end of the 39th month, I try to go sell it. Ill get *maybe* $23,000 for the car. So I will have laid out $23,000 and still have nothing to show for it. Plus I have to go through the hassle of selling the car.

These cars depreciate too quickly and I'd also like to avoid the hassle of keeping the car and maintaining it after the warranty expires.

Still sound dumb?

Mind you this is my first lease.

its true, time is money, but if your time was worth that much money, you wouldnt be worried about any of those numbers.

when you put it the way you just put it, it does make sense purely by the numbers.

but why roll in a benz anyway? why not a more sensible car that is say maybe 25k. you drive it for 3 years and sell for 10-15k.

another option is perhaps buying a relatively "new" used car, so that you wont lose as much money on the resale.

its just that the whole leasing thing to me feels like one of those living-beyond-your-means deals. if you could afford it wouldnt you just buy the car outright, and if you cant afford it, why not just buy a cheaper car.

during a lease, do you have to pay for maintenance? does the dealership have a chance to screw you over if something goes wrong with the car? are you allowed to have it repaired/serviced at your discretion? at shops of your choosing? repair it in your own garage?

then again if you can truely afford to lease it and youre just doing it because its cheaper and it makes you happy then more power to you and just ignore all my concerns.

Nah, I was thinking of passing it to the wife and get me a used e46 M3 and some ESS Twin screw S/C goodness. That way I can track the shiet out of it, but that's another project for a later date.

As for alkemyst, Rivets, do you have it?

Serious Nissan is serious. (Yes, that does say Nismo on it)

"Myspace angle" wife pic., with permission, of course.

I'd definitely not put your wife up as a 'model' she's no dog...but she's not a going to be a top 10 pick at any club.

1) rivets are ugly on a street car, that's an S13...about $1000 can buy you one.

2) How is that serious? It's a fucking SR20DET....basic swap. I am probably going to do the same as it's a no-brainer. Serious is LS1/6, RB25/26DET/T, VG, etc. I am looking for a street car...350RWHP in my car will put me at a serious 1/4 mile and not be a fucking basket case on the street.

3) I really can't say anything bad about her, other than I think you are over estimating her. If I had to end up with her for life though I really wouldn't feel I got cheated though ;)

My car is designed to be a sleeper. It's got a lot of stuff behind the scenes that I have built up to prepare for a top notch engine swap. Just the wiring alone for a future rear battery and my stereo was between $300-500. I have matted the whole car with a few hundrd bucks of Second Skin Damplifer. I just don't have the $7-10k to realistically spend when I have home improvements and some school debt to pay off first.

Probably next year though my car will be completed. I have not cut corners. The wheels will be changed and along with the engine and a pair of seats I will be pretty much done.

I get offers on the street for it that have been serious. I am not looking to sell.

To put my car in perspective, I had a relatively minor accident. Repairs were over $5k...my car was not totaled. The estimator said my car would qualify for approximately 1-2 years of effective age.

I have yet to see my car at any light...I have only seen two others that have my same 'body type' and one I know was a conversion and a real beater. Add that to RWD, two doors and a more upscale look than 'boy racer' and I found the perfect car for me. It took me close to 6 months to find it.

What exactly do rear batteries for amps and sound dampener have to do with sleepers?

I was considering a RB25DET...even most that do a RB26DETT convert to a single turbo.

The thing is is that the 240SX is really a monster at around 300RWHP. To do this the SR20DET is more than capable and a perfect swap since it came in the car already. It can rev past 8k and returns excellent mileage for the power.

The sound of the RB engines is awesome though...but it's not as daily driver which is my goal.

I had considered just getting a basic Honda or so and make the 240SX a weekend car, but I like to drive it.

I don't think many would classify my car as rice. My 'fart can' doesn't sound like one and is a $900 exhaust.

Absolutely no one would consider my car a POS. It's in much better condition than many 2 year old cars.

However I will say if you like a lot of gadgetry, it's not the car for anyone. It's very minimalistic, which I wanted with a nice fit and finish and feel of everything.

The car was pretty expensive in its day and moved up the price of the previous generation model.

LOL, alright since you changed your tone I'll be a gentleman as well. I like what you did to your car, I was never much of a ricer either and I would always prefer to be a sleeper. The M3 would be a dead giveaway ;), so I was actually just boost this 330Ci, but decided against it.

I'm actually will get into tracking again soon, damn cars, so addicting.

Oh, and that is not a street car, the engine has been completely rebuilt and they stuffed a bigger fan on it, upgraded everything else. They haven't tuned it yet though.

well first my battery is still up front. Second the sound dampener is for enjoyment.

When I do go turbo I will have to move my battery to the rear. I have a 1/0 gauge wire going back there now to a 1/0 to 4G distribution block...it will be more than adequate for 800WRMS.
