Finals week at my school (UC Davis) and LUCKY ME, my hardest class and we get the first final of the whole freakin finals schedule (monday 8am). I'm wondering how i'm going to pull this all nighter off.

Its already 2am, still got a bit of studying to do. In between sections i'm giving my mind a break to think, checking ATOT of course, and lifting some weights to get my blood pumping a bit. Just got my first cup of coffee for the night too. So how do you guys pull off the all night cramming before finals? I think i'm going to need some help around 7am.

i have never once pulled an all nighter for school. other things, yes. school, never. if you're missing sleep because you're doing schoolwork, you're doing something wrong. thats my philosophy.

unplug your computer from the intarweb would be my advice, though.

It's simple - I sleep ;)

I usually just take the day off from work, and study during the daytime.

i've only pulled an all nighter once for a test and let's just say it was easy staying up but once i got to the test i was half asleep! so yeah, that was bad. i don't do that anymore. i at least try to get 3-4 hours. which will prolly happen tonite (2 finals tomorrow kill me nowwwwwwwww)

Last time I stayed up all night was for a paper. I just stayed up. On occasion, I would go play with the dogs or something, but mostly I just sat and plugged away. General, all nighters are good for doing homework, not learning. So if you are actually studying, do yourself a favor and do it during the day and try and get plenty of sleep otherwise.

I have to agree with ElFenix. "If you're missing sleep because you're doing schoolwork, you're doing something wrong."

Or you're poor. A lot of people don't have mommy and daddy cutting checks for them and have to work while going to school = very little sleep.

Although, to be fair, a lot of people don't well manage that 'socializing/studying' or 'play/work' dichotomy.

doesn't matter. they are all 3.5 gpa and above at ucla engineering school (CS/CSEE/EE majors!) and they're all girls too...

when you make grades like that, who cares if you slack off? and actually i'm the worst slacker, the rest of them don't really, they just study really hard.

perhaps I should take that back. i know its pretty unrealistic to study every single day in the academic calender and I wouldnt recommend anyone doing that (cause then youd be a total loser :p ). Im just saying you make decisions and you deal with the consequences :)

nonetheless having to pull an all nighter... thats pretty bad.

plus if you think about it, realistically how much can you learn in one night. ive always thought all midterm/final review sessions do si tell you if you're screwed or not

all nighters= the most efficeint studying possible ~ i feel pushed to the limit in how much I can cram, and instantly forget after the final :)

Depends on the person. Some people can stay up for 24 hours without sleep, some for 48 hours. I had to stay up for 48 hours to finish my nForce2 roundup and then take a final last Wednesday. In fact, I'm staying up now, studying for another Final tomorrow, at which point I'll only have one more to go. :D

It also depends on your job and/or other such obligations. Working for AnandTech pretty much demands that you stay up longer than the vast majority of college students. Anand regularly does it. I do it every so often (obviously it's pretty bad now with finals and all), and so does Matt, Kris, etc.

i stayed up for 64 hours one time during summerschool this past summer. I was behind in my hw and the classes werent exactly easy either, i just had no time to stop doing work work work. I just about passed out when i finally got to bed. :Q I was able to stay awake for the most part in the classes too, 80% alert id say. Compared to night swhen i was getting maybe 3 or 4 hours of sleep i was actually more awake in class during that marathon time, i know its unhealthy but i couldnt get myself to go to bed, i had to do the work

I definatley felt the sleep catch up to me the week after....
