Well the election has been held and there's some good news and bad.


We have 175 seats in our parlament

The bad things:
Danish Peoples Party 24(+2)
Our current government stays, which means DPP will continue to influence the politics.
The Social Liberals didn't get enough votes to give an alternative to DPP

The good things:
Social Liberals 16(+7) (I'm a member)
Unity list 6(+2) Actually the most socialist party, but they're like bullterriers against the government

So while it's good that we had a very good election, we can't really do that much with our votes.


I know you've all been waiting for the results. 😀

But the liberals (Venstre) supports Bush. (Which shows they're not really liberals)

Our current governement is the: Liberals (Venstre, "Left", which actually are considered a rightwing party), Conservatives (They are what the sound like), backed up by Danish Peoples Party (Which hate everything outside Denmark, except for US and Bush)

Then we have: Christian Democrats (Family values and Foreign Aid), Social Liberalist (Internationalists strong EU and UN, reforms of our welfare system (I'm a member)).
Social Democrats, Socialistic Peoples Party and Unity List are all different kind of socialist partys with different degrees of how strong it should be enforced.
So from left to right

Unity List, Socialistic Peoples Party, Soc. Dem., Soc. Lib., Chr. Dem, Con., Liberals, Danish peoples Party

The bolded are those currently in power and probably also those who will stay in power 🙁

We are a horde of 5.5 mio people, we need lots of parties 😉

On the positive side it would eliminate Danish Peoples Party, on the negative side it would leave the Social Democrats and the Liberals left.

What you're saying is not entirely true BioStud. Allthough the Liberals supported Bush in the war, they officially supported Kerry during the elections. The agenda in the US is just much further to the right.

More parties is better than just two main parties. It would probably create more funny and hilarious moments than just two big parties. But of course if one of the main parties is the DPP then that just kind of sucks.
 
hmm... Yeah, the liberal party in Sweden is also right wing, pro-US and pro-Israel. Can someone explain why the liberals are left wing in the US and right wing in Europe?

They've always been invited to the democrat conventions, but I don't believe they support any of the candidates (wisely enough) as they will have to work with winner no matter which party he comes from.

It's more like Why is the left so far right in USA. (The us is so far right this can be confusing.)

Funny that the primeminister (liberal) once wrote a book called "The minimal state" where he wanted to redeuce the public sector to an absolute minimum, but now he has said that he will not make any major changes to the welfare state. Talk about flip-flopping.
There's only two parties who have said a reform of the welfare state is necessary, the Social Liberals and the Conservative. Both would like it to become more geared to an international workforce, and people comming from other parts of the world. It's not likely to happen though as they are not very large parties.
 
Yay! after a recount we gained another member, while the conservative lost one, so now we went from 9 to 17 🙂
