I have tried zoomplayer, VLC and mpc for video playback, but in the end i kept going back to gomplayer. All this time they only had Korean and Japanese version of the program, so I was hesistant to recommend it to everyone. I just updated the program and was pleasantly surprised now all the menus are avialable in English as well, and thus decided to put up a post about it. Listed below are some noteworthy features :
- Comes with most essential codecs (personally, I only had to install mastroka pack on top of it)
- Automatically updates connects to server for updates
- Plays incomplete files as they are being downloaded
- Skinable with color themes
- Supports M3U, PLS, ASX playlists
- Supports winamp dsp plugins
- Robust smi subtitle support
- Screen catpure with frame indexes at user-defined interval (perfect for creating animated gifs)
- Fully customizable keyboard/mouse shortcut assignments
I am not sure if they are still using the ffmpeg based decoder, but with earlier versions, gomplayer was known to be smoother than anything out there on lower speced machines.
according to the windows task manager, it takes up about 9952kb of memory as opposed to 15236kb of wmp9.
