I was one of the people who always used Windex on my 21" Sony GDM-500PS. Yes, I sense many of you cringing but I really never noticed any change in my glare coating (or lack of one ;)). I just paid 12.00 for a rag. Yes 12.00 but you dont even need to use glass cleaner. It's called the Mystic Maid. It was apparently created for 'clean room' applications and it works great!

I have an even better idea:

Don't touch the damn screen :p
It's free, and it takes absolutely no effort.
I can be lazy and cheap ;)

Seriously though, thanks for the tip, I'm looking into getting a flat screen w/ anti-glare and wondering how I should go about cleaning it..

Thats my biggest pet peeve! I never touch my screen but I always have people using my pc and for some reason they feel the need to point things out by touching the screen. I HATE THAT! I yell at them every time. "Don't touch the screen!"

Strafe...I feel your pain. I have a bunch of bandits that are always groping my screen too...they're called KIDS! Aaaagghh!

The cloth sounds pretty cool...I never use glass cleaner on my ViewSonic P817 'cause it cost me way too much $$$ to risk damage.

Hey Strafe--

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered the 7" x 7" one from their web site. So this is lintless right??

My monitor screen became full of streaks after I tried window cleaner, and neither alcohol nor plain water helped. Then somebody told me to try distilled water, and it removed all the streaks. Fogging the screen with the breath works just as well.

I just use a rag or a piece of paper.......but then again I don't touch my screen, so I mainly worry about dust. The paper trick is good tho, cleans up my monitor whenever it needs it and I doubt the paper is doing anything harmful.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about. I just read a post about 2 weeks ago and someone posted a link where you can get Klear Screen. It has no alcohol or ammonia and it works great! I've been using it on my KDS 21 AV-TF (sony) screen with no problems. I'll try to find the link.

I've been using one of those 3M high performance cleaning cloths. It seems to work well for me. Got a 4-pack at Costco a while ago when they were on sale.

I agree with you all. IT DRIVES ME NUTS when people touch my monitor...especially if its a hot girl Iam after or something....for some reason I still have to urge to pick her up and throw her across the room.

My monitor must be 100% clean at all times.

Xerox uses a similar type of fabric to make cleaning cloths for the optics assemblies of our digital copiers.

Considering that one piece of dust can ruin copy quality, they are more than adequate for your monitor . . . I've been using one for a long time. They work great on glasses, as well.

LOL, I am constantly screaming at my 3 boys, who seem to be unable to gesture at anything they are working on without touching the monitor screen. And being 14, 11 and 9, you can only imagine what they have on their fingers:disgust: And don't get me started on their rocking back on the chairs and putting feet up on desks, etc. :|

You really need to be careful with how you clean your monitor, somehow, I managed to get a nice scratch in the coating right in the middle of my Trinitron. Wonderful! This was with using a soft cloth, there must have been a piece of dirt on it or something. I've gotten used to it, but on occasion, I do notice it, and its really annoying. And the only way to fix it is to buy a whole new tube.. Might as well just get a new monitor.. Ugh.
