Finally starting the new build, need some help!

hey,
so iv finally got around to being able to afford my new build

so far i have brought:

graphics: gigabyte gtx 460

motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58

i still need to buy :

was looking at this ram : http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...=8&subcat=1390

and i want to buy a i7 930 and overclock it.

i already own a ocz stealth extreme 2 600w psu

i plan on getting a 2nd gtx 460 at a later date, will that psu power it all?

and i also need a new pc case, i would like one with a side window
im currently looking at an antec 900 case

oh and if it makes any diffrence i live in the UK.
this is my first proper gaming rig so sorry if i ask anything stupid!

X58 is not the way to go when your total budget is so low. You'll want to look at AMD and/or P55.

All X58 motherboards perform identically for a practical purposes, so that's basically just saying that it is inexpensive. Which ain't saying much considering that X58 boards cost the same as an AMD CPU and mobo combined.

Anywho, can you clarify what you need and what must be included in the 500 pounds? CPU, RAM, storage, OS? Also, are you dead set on SLI? I recommend against it but it will factor into whether or not you need a new PSU.

i tryed amd this time but i realy do just prefer intel for some reason lol.
the mobo has already come out of the £500 so i have about £390 left.
i need to get:
cpu
ram
cpu cooler

i already have a 640gb hdd and i realy would like to try sli but not right now thatll be down the line, which was one of the reasons for the x58 (more pci lanes or something!)

also any reccomendations for a case? prefrably with a side window? but that wont be out of the £500 but prefrably spending under £80 on it

Heh, you pretty much picked the worst AMD processor ever made for your current rig. After that experience I can't blame you for wanting to stick with Intel.

For future reference, more PCIe lanes is not a good reason to go for X58. x8/x8 SLI/Crossfire is about 1% slower than x16/x16. Not worth paying about twice as much for the total platform IMHO.

For your parts, here's what I would recommend:
Core i7 950 234 - Higher multi than the 930
Corsair DDR3 1600 6GB 87 - You'll want DDR3 1600 since you will be overclocking, it's a shame that the 1.5V memory is OOS though.
TRUE 44
Total: 365 pounds

You should be able to get to 4Ghz no problem with that setup. As for the case, the Cooler Master HAF series is a pretty popular line of "gamer" cases.

Meh, both 930 and 950 typically OC well, to about the same GHz, so technically 930 might be called the "better overclocker" having a bigger OC above stock. Just get the 950 unless you can find the 930 significantly cheaper.

The 950 has a higher multi so that you don't have to raise the BCLK as high. It's also a newer stepping I believe.

ok so i just brought the i7 950 for £235 which was only £5 more than the 930. just wondering how my psu will hold up in this build?? its the ocz stealthxtreme 2 600w?

Forget multi-gpu when single cards tackle about anything. Idk about ocz PSU's but the rest of their stuff has always been iffy for me....600w is a lot for a 460 too...Also, I'd go for a cm 690ii over the 900. I liked building with that more than my 900.

You should be OK with your current PSU, but you'd definitely need to replace it if you wanted to SLI (not that I recommend that).
