After long last, the Presidential immunity argument of GWB&co is at an end.
And Karl Rove and Harriet Myers must stand and deliver. I am not happy that its behind closed doors, and I do not expect any immediate fireworks, but as GWB&co discovered during the justice department hearings, democrats are from Missouri, and they very carefully cross check all statements.

Like Scooter Fibby, ole Karl better be very honest, facts are very sharp things, and they will cut anyone trying to juggle them.

Even if ole Karl or Harriet gets away with perjury in the first encounter, their perjury may not last long. And when the rats start to run, the truth will start to come out at last.

The truth can set us free.

If he lies, and we have no way of proving otherwise does it matter if he takes an oath?

A somewhat good question palehorse. But to start, what was a political operative like Rove doing when he had any access to the justice department, something that was and still is illegal under law.

I suspect that round one will be more in the area of fact finding, then various facts will be crosschecked, not only from the testimony of Rove and Miers, but also in the testimony of other involved parties.

Depending on what happens in round one, there will be a far more detailed round two and three, and like watergate, its not going to be a pretty sight.

And rather than it being a cancer growing on a sitting President, it can become a sideshow and a national catharsis, and hopefully show that justice delayed is not always justice denied.

Its certain that some will prematurely claim witch hunt, but its still the nature of the process, and if we can learn the lessons of the past, its less likely that any will try to repeat them. Let the chips fall where they do.
 
It is about time. That being said, I don't think that Congress will uncover too much. Rove is crafty enough to give Congress the runaround without actually perjuring himself. I will be highly surprised if he gets caught red-handed for anything.

Fair enough. However, what if nothing untoward is uncovered or revealed? Will a lack of closure or certainty linger forever, or will it work to exonerate him once and for all -- and by extension, Bush himself?

My guess is that nothing short of a hangman's noose in the town square will satiate those who have already tried and convicted him in their minds...

so what part of this the word "agreed" do you not understand??

Karl Rove and Harriet Miers agreed Wednesday to be questioned by the House Judiciary Committee, settling for now a major constitutional dispute that was going to be decided by the courts

 
Keith Obermann reported last night that the agreement was the testimony would be in private and not under oath, but on the record. And Rove and Meyers have not totally conceded their immunity. Although lying to Congress is a crime whether under oath or not, I am sorely disappointed that Congress caved in on this (with the apparent blessings of the White House). I doubt the White House wanted a court ruling that could limit the (very) arguable limits of Presidential power that Bush claimed.
 
Many of have Rove will take the fifth or not recall, but something that somewhat works against that is not only the Rove ego, but the fact he has shot his mouth off in many public forums, and has all but answered the questions already. Except this time, they are playing for keeps and Rush is not in a forum where the audience enjoys the story.

If way too clever Rove gets away with it, it may come at a price of selling someone else down the river.

Could he also 'get away with it' because he nor the Bush Administration did anything wrong? I know that would require you to look at this with a non partisan view.. But, isn't that a POSSIBILITY? Or have you already convicted them?

Not sure what the slip was about 'Rush' above. I know its tough to bang out rational thoughts when frothing at the mouth but lets try to keep your people straight here. There are several other threads bashing Rush you can go spout off in.
 
I don't like that it will be behind closed doors. I depend upon watching live coverage on C-Span for the truth instead of listening to the cable news networks lie for Republicans as they do every day. If C-Span ever disappears through some future Republican effort I'll throw away my TV.
