E. Messages

The most important parts of any forum are, of course, posting, replying, and viewing messages. The process to do each of these tasks is outlined below.
I. Posting

Posting messages is quite simple. Enter the category in which you want to post a message and simply click the "New Topic" button on the menu. You will then be taken to the Post a Message form where you enter the message title so that a new thread can be created. Below are the fields of this form and its descriptions.

Above the message box, you will see a toolbar with symbols like "B" and "I". This toolbar allows quick access to bolding text, changing font to italics, underlining text, and putting links around words/sentences.

II. Replying

Another major part of a forum is the ability to reply to messages/threads posted by other people. To do this, simply click the Reply button located in each message within a thread. You will be directed to the Reply form. Below is a list of fields on the Reply form and their descriptions.

Above the message box, you will see a toolbar with symbols like "B" and "I". This toolbar allows quick access to bolding text, changing font to italics, underlining text, and putting links around words/sentences.

III. Editing

After posting a message, you may want to edit the message. To do this, navigate within the forums and locate where you posted your message. At the bottom right of the message, there will be an Edit link. Click on this link. The Edit Message form will appear. Below is a list of the fields on this form and their descriptions.

Above the message box, you will see a toolbar with symbols like "B" and "I". This toolbar allows quick access to bolding text, changing font to italics, underlining text, and putting links around words/sentences

IV. Viewing

To view messages in the forum, navigate into a category and click on a thread/topic that interests you. You will presented with a list of messages. If the number of messages exceed the number you've allowed to be viewed per page, you will see the page numbers at the top and the bottom of the screen. This allows you to navigate through the page(s) of messages.

Every message consists of the following features: the message body, the posted date, by whom it was posted, and a toolbar at the top right and the bottom right of the screen.

Top Right Message Toolbar
The toolbar located at the top right allows you to do various tasks. Listed below is a description each task.
V. Member Ranking

Ranking
When reading messages, you will see titles under the authors nickname. These are indicators of the amount of posts they have made. The schema is below.

Title Posts Required
Junior Member 0
Member 20
Senior Member 200
Golden Member 1000
Platinum Member 2000
Diamond Member 3000

G. Today

The Today page is a summary of what is happening in the forums as it relates to you. If you subscribed to threads, or have private messages, these will be displayed here. Another area of interest is Hot Threads, which are defined by a certain number of posts in the thread. Also listed is the top ten posters to the forums.

H. Polls

If the Administrator has this feature on, you will have the ability to create a poll as you create a new thread.
Creating a poll is quite simple. You will need to enter the question you wish ask users to poll on, and a description of the poll. You will also need to enter possible answers to that question for people to vote. When completed, click Finish.

If you see a thread title in which "Poll:" precedes the title, then this thread contains a poll. To vote, simply click on the Poll icon located in the message toolbar (top right of every message).

I. Private Messages

Another feature of FuseTalk is Private Messaging. This features allows you to send a message to a specific user, and only that user will be able to read it. To send a private message, click on the Send Private Message icon that appears in the top right message toolbar as you are viewing the original message. This icon will only appear if the Administrator has Private Messaging enabled. Type your message and press Send.
If you notice an icon below the form logo (top left), then you have new private messages. To view private messages, click on the Private Message icon and all of your new private messages will be displayed. Click on the Read icon and the message will be displayed. If you wish to reply to the message, click on the Reply button; otherwise, click Done.

When messages have been read, they are transferred into the Private Messaging History, which can be viewed by clicking the View History button from within the Private Messaging area.

If you are getting messages from someone you don't wish to talk to, you can use the Ignore feature. Simply enter the nickname and add the name to the Ignore list from within the Private Messaging area.

J. Chat

If the Administrator has enabled the Real-time Chat server, a Chat button will appear on the menu bar. This feature allows you to talk to other users in real-time. When you click on the Chat button, a window will appear with five panes within it: Main Message pane, Send Message pane, Categories pane, Users Sessions pane, and Personal Sessions pane. Below is an explanation of the functionality of each window pane.
The Message pane is the location where messages that you type are displayed. Each time a user joins your chat session, a message will appear indicating that this user has joined. Your messages are displayed without your nickname, while other user's messages are displayed with their nickname in bold preceding it.

The Send Message pane allows you to send your message. Type your message and press "Enter". There is one IRC command that was incorporated into this field -- the "/me" command. This allows you to write messages like, "Joe says Hi!". This is what users will see when you use the "/me" command.

The Categories pane is a listing of all forum categories. You can chat in any one of these categories by clicking on the category name. Categories are similar to the IRC term, "Chat Room".

The Users pane is a listing of users currently using the chat module. If you wish to chat privately with a user, click on their name. If this user has allowed personal chat sessions (a setting in the user profile), then they will be notified of your request, and you can engage in a private chat.

The Private Sessions pane displays any private chats in which you are currently engaged.

K. Logout

Logging out of FuseTalk is very simple. Located at the end of the menu on the menu bar will be a Logout button. Click on this button. You will be prompted to verify your decision to logout. Press OK to log out of the forums. blah blah blah
