Although I believe this should not be locked. This should become the new official Playstation2 thread. The other threads were locked because of the sites that were scamming people. I believe this is an officially licensed webpage from the company.

It's now all about PC's and X-Box.

This thread shouldn't be locked. This is from the Official Sony Playstation website. I ordered mine earlier in the day when I first saw this at T3chbargains. It's just too bad that they charge tax for ppl in California. I had to pay over $20 in sales tax.

dougjnn: The only reasons I would ever buy an X-box is if I could install a different O/S on it and use it as a PC, or take it apart for parts to go into PCs. Sony has much more backing from video game companies, and I'd be very surprised if the X-box is a better unit.

On the other hand, I don't intend to buy a PS2 until they are much cheaper, but I have friends who have neither a DVD player or a Playstation, that would very much like to have both, and the PS2 provides both of those devices, as well as being a new video game console.

kombatmud... i don't want to turn this thread into xbox vs ps2 battle but i can guarantee you graphics on xbox will look much better than ps2 for a simple fact that ps2 have only 4megs frame buffer (which means whatever you see on your tv screen/per second is only made up of 4 megs of data). xbox will have 64megs of shared memory. and about game for xbox.... metal gear solid x is confirmed to be released (many many months after ps2 version).

and one more thing.... i hate microsoft.
