Finally picked up the 80GB Intel SSD - any neat apps/things I should try? :)

yay! worked upgraded my laptop with the 80GB Intel SSD ... too bad it's the G1 version but I'm not complaining.

Just wondering if there are any cool apps, things to try with it? It's definitely much smoother compared to prev. HD.

yup, I'm throwing it to our data analysis software and it does pretty well. Just wondering if there were any apps. to show pretty colors and stuff ... haha, not even sure what I'm looking for.

any windows installer installation will go much much faster.
games which have horrible load time should be put on it (some games were just plain designed badly... it happens)

One word: WoW. The load time difference is ... quite impressive.

Modern games by contrast don't scatter random reads all over the place - that's bad design.

Pretty colors... as in benchmark results?

Look for AS SSD Benchmark, CrystalDiskMark, and HD Tune. Compare results between the SSD and any mechanical hard drives you have plugged in. The difference is dramatic.

I noticed a very large difference in Sims 3 when testing. Load times get cut 2-3x. The game stores a lot of content in cache files and does random access.

Crysis seemed to make little difference between a 7200 rpm hard drive and a SSD.

My god NWN 2 was terrible on a mechanical...

I haven't tried it out yet on my SSD, but it is sad to say I stopped playing for reasons other than load times.

Game just got reptetive.

I've noticed the most dramatic speed increase is waiting for all the tray icons to load - that is, there is no longer any more wait.

ATI CCC used to take nearly a minute to fully initialise on my old mech, but now does it instantly at bootup on my vertex 60.

And the Intel G1 is better than the vertex 60 😉
