Yeah, according to DP Review, if you use the EVF only, you get awesome battery life...

The S2 IS takes standard AA cells - NiMH are recommended and were used for this test. In an effort to keep the price keen Canon does not supply any rechargeable batteries, so you'll need to budget for those - plus a charger. Battery life is surprisingly good for an EVF camera (550 shots using the CIPA standard for NiMH, 130 with alkalines). Batteries last slightly longer using the EVF rather than the LCD screen.

Can't go wrong with Canon. I used to be an Olympus guy myself, but after buying my Canon, I'm very happy.

I too got the S2 IS and I love it even though recently it has just been a paper weight. I don't really have anything to take pictures of. :p

As for the memory I bought 1x 1GB Kingmax Platnium card, 1x 256MB Kingmax Platnium card, and their little SD USB2.0 card reader pro thumbdrive.

Any sample pics now that you have had yours for a bit Josh?

I'll probably be taking some pics of the cooling system upgrade project on the GT as my first pics.

That was another one I was looking at, but in some ways, the S2 is better than that for what I would use it for. The Pro 1 is way more camera than I would need, and so is the S2 really. If I was going for a Pro 1, I'd probably just make the jump to a SLR.

It's all a moot point anyhow since the Pro 1 is out of my price range...but if it wasn't, I think I'd still go with the S2 over the Pro 1.

Good info though!

:)

??

Can you explain?

I do believe there are add on lenses for it...if that's what you mean?

I have a powershot S50, 35mm-105mm equivalent. Taking pictures of architecture was a pain because it's only at 35mm.

But then you can buy like, wide angle & telephoto adapters and all kinds of goodies (filters and such) for your camera, whereas almost nothing is avaliable for mine :p, one of the reasons why I'm going DSLR in a few months. Still a good choice though, 12x zoom rocks and Canon rules.

Ahhh...gotcha. One of the reasons I got this is because it's sort of a nice blend of an advanced P&S, and some SLR-like features. The movie mode is pretty cool too. ;)

If you're going to buy adapters to shoot at different ranges why not get a used DSLR body for within your price range and a good but inexpenisve all purpose lens ? The add on's for P&S aren't really worth the price.

I would disagree on the P&S add-ons. You seem to be lumping all P&S add-ons all together. I have no need for an SLR, nor the budget.
