TF2 anyone ? 😉

Yeah, anyone who bitches about a 6 month delay for HL2, think about those of us that were pumped about Team Fortress 2. It was supposed to come out in April '99, then delayed, and delayed, and delayed. Anyone know when/why it was scrapped? I quit paying attention after 2001.

Believe it or not (and I don't blame you if you don't!) it is still a live project, at least theoretically. It got more and more ambitious, and at some point they moved it over to the Source engine, creating further delay. Ironically I think the plan was that it would turn out to be something very much like what BF1942 turned out to be.

I think that's going to be a very popular reaction to any future HL2 news. Had Valve been honest and upfront about the original delay it would've been fine. Instead they pulled that crap with ATI and the vouchers to sell video cards then followed it with the code theft excuse.

All I can say is HL2 better have great multiplayer or I think there's a lot of people out there who will play the single player without purchasing it.

I wouldn't put it past Valve (nor would I totally blame them) if they included some kind of activation requirement, like Windows XP has, to prevent piracy of the single-player game. No doubt it could be defeated by some 7334 hackers, but it would probably deter a fair bit of piracy.

Well by the time HL2 comes out it will be yesterdays software, kinda like Condition Zero. Bet we will see UT2k5 before HL2. 🙂 I am kidding but who knows..... I guess it could happen.

Anyone remember HL being delayed?
Half-Life, the highly-anticipated action game from Sierra On-Line, has slipped from its November release date. While a new date hasn?t been solidified, the company says it will most likely ship during the first quarter of 1998. Sierra says it will make a demo available approximately 30 days before the game is released.
Considering that the game's developer, Valve, is located just outside Seattle, Half-Life's absence did cause some speculation among attendees about whether the product will actually ship this year. After all, Sierra once had a Christmas 1997 release date scheduled for the long-anticipated, first-person 3D action game based on the Quake engine.

And you're all complaining about HL2 delays? (That seem so far to have been a similar length)
And apparently Valve re-invested the $40 million from HL sales into HL2, so they have all their eggs in one basket, makes it more worthwhile to ensure the game is damned good (apparently re-invested, according to PC Gamer UK).

Stop bitching and whining. Go play Doom 3 or something.

That's an interesting bit of HL history that I was not aware of as I was just getting my first computer back then . I do recall first seeing HL as a "new release" at compusa in Nov '98. My wife gave it to me for christmas as an extra little gift. As I've been playing it or one of it's mods virtually every day since then (as well as running a dedicated server daily), I'd say it was one of the best 30 dollar expenditures in my lifetime.

I do plan on getting HL2 the day it comes out regardless of how, when or where.

Similar story for me, I've been a gamer for as long as I can remember, but I asked a friend which I should get, Baulder's gate or HL. He suggested HL and for the next three years, it was all I played. Definitely a worthy $50 investment.

Funny reading about you gamers that weren't around before HL 🙂. I remember everything that happened before HL, I even remember my excitement about hearing that the guys from Quake Command were going to be a part of Valve's team developing Half-Life. Quake Command was 2 dudes (wedge and someone else) who made extremely awesome mods for Quake1. One of their best mods was one where you could fly these space ships around and shoot at each other. Man I had fun playing that mod. If you were on foot, you could get these stinger missiles that you fired out of a giant rocket launcher at the space ships.

They even had a page on Valve's Website:

Good times...
