Using your heel to step on the brake pedal. I've never actually done that as I find using the clutch to keep the car from rolling back is sufficient enough for me.

Notfred, I haven't ever argued with you and always held you in respect, I still do now, but age is one of the reasons I came to these forums. Here, people don't know your age unless you tell them. Online I have been mistaken as an entire company with lots of employees, a full time web designer/website manager, etc. The truth is, I may have taken out 2 companies due to my level of competition and them not being able to survive in the area a few years ago, means that age can't dictate that much.

If you want to know how I took them out of business it was through pure competition. I ran my website which ranked other websites by how many people they got per day also based on categories compared to the origional method of ranking based on votes per site. The site grew, it grew so large and with the largest sites joining the list, those other sites were left and mine was still there. Eventually, mine was shut down due to operating expenses and advertisers shutting down when the economy was on a downfall.

Also, having driven a few cars, I am entitled to my opinion on which on is better. Granted I've only driven 3 different cars, but I still have an opininion which one I like.

I can go on and on about other areas where I exceed people who do their job for a living, but the fact is age doesn't matter IMO. Experience, yes, that can matter but with experience at every level you are entitled to your own opinions.

Jeezus, I've been driving manual years and never done that (UK, so most popular). I'm not even sure I could actually use the heel of my foot to touch the pedal. Clutch control is what you should be doing.

Hmm for me, I've always used the right heel part of my foot to blip the accelerator and the left part of my foot just below the toe to brake. I'm not sure I could contort my body and twist my leg enough to do it the other way with how the pedals are placed in most cars I've driven.
 
I never have or will need to use the brake when getting a car with a manual transmission started going up hill. It is all about timing of the clutch and the gas to get going.
 
I recently tried keeping the brake in and using part of my foot to accelerate to avoid fall back and found it quite tricky. I've always just released the brake and hit the gas quickly and it works even on very steep hills.
 
my 91 accord has much more accurate, direct, and communicative steering than my parent's 91 volvo. it's also 1200 pounds lighter, so it's a little more quick on it's feet. 😉
but as for brakes, the volvo is actually better. the accord suffers from poor front/rear balance that makes the rears lockup too early.

It is tricky at first, but with practice, it becomes second-nature.

one warning the older hondas are notorious for having not enough torque and having the torque peak at a high rpm. result, you'll burn out a lot of clutches. my dad had an older honda accord, more precisely he had an '88 honda accord and he burned out 4 clutches in 4 years.

 
so where can you get a high-performance clutch for these? I have an older ('85) Accord that's sitting in my driveway. Needs a clutch.
