If you don't mind, can you run my benchmark? Just hit Enter when you run the app and tell me the numbers it gives you in the end.

And 3fps on a GeForce Go 7200...

Horrible..

What do other cards get?

I got about 13 FPS on it with my 7900GT.

The SM3 mode uses heavy dynamic branching, and the 7-series cards don't do well there.

anything you want tested in particular..?
If you happen to have this beauty in Vista 64-bit environment..

1. Various media codec/players (especially HD format, such as Windows HD and Quicktime H.264) - Any problem running Quicktime, Nero Showtime, WinDVD or PowerDVD, etc? (including as web-browser plug-ins or activeX) Both full-screen mode and window'ed-mode
2. Alt+tab'ing in/out of games
3. Playing games in windowed mode
4. Desktop 3D acceleration, especially Windows Photo Gallery and PDF viewing, including in web browsers. And Windows Media Center, of course.
5. Dreamscene (you know, movie playing as (instead of) wallpaper on desktop)
6. Any DirectX related problems? (Try all 4 versions of 3DMarks? 01/03/05/06)
7. V-sync related issue?
8. Any driver-related Windows error messages? Like the infamous "Display driver has stopped responding" with G80 & Vista 64-bit (Including those found in Event Viewer)
9. Playing DVD movie without any issue?
10. Control panel bug-free?
11. Enabling AA/AF causing games crash, etc.?

Just took a few off of my head. Of course the instablity symptoms being BSOD, lock-ups, crash to desktop, reboots, etc. Thank you so much.

So, what was your "irrelevant" 3DMark06 score? It would help folks to know that have similar system specs to yours and who are also considering this GPU.

I'll have to rerun 3dmark06, but here's the 3dmark05 score from the same system (A64 3500, 1GB RAM, 2900XT)

Score: 8623 3dmarks
CPU Score: 2989

GT1 - Return To Proxycon - 28.9fps
GT2 - Firefly Forest - 23.7fps
GT3 - Canyon Flight - 59.8fps
CPU Test 1 - 1.7fps
CPU Test 2 - 2.4fps

Ranked: #287004 (woohooo!!)

WRT Vista x64 and the official 8.37.4.3 driver, I can answer a few of those:

2. No problems.
3. 3D clocks aren't applied, but no other problems.
4. No problems w/ 3D acceleration in those applications.
6. Not really, but 3DMark '06 crashes until you remove/rename a certain file. Then it's fine.
7. No problems.
8. CCC occasionally "stops responding" on startup, but it stopped doing that for some unknown reason. Media Center BSOD'd the first time I loaded it up, and occasionally its "host process" will stop responding, but in the last few days it's been fine--watched TV for hours without a problem. I think this is related to my 3D settings resetting themselves and then not properly displaying in CCC.
10. No, very buggy. I've tried various driver releases, and then the official driver on a clean install--random crashes, loses settings. It's very suicidal at this point.
11. No problems. (The AA problems I had were with 8.38 RC7, which is a leaked driver.)

nullpointerus: Thank you very much for sharing your experience. Those are the exactly what I wanted to know - the real end-user experience. G80 has its own issues, too (just guess where my original questions stem from) and I really wanted to know about HD 2900XT before making a purchase. Your replies are very valuable to me and I appreciate much!
