ok, after all the threads I have made, hearing what people had to say and reading a bit on things, I have finally come to my final decision I think.

E4300
GA-965P-S3
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500-A, 2.0 version, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 500W

and got this game free with the E4300 purchase
UBISOFT Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter - game any good??


as for right now I can go without a gc until the new ones come out in march I think it is, at which point ill get one then.

Raidmax is never really a good PSU choice, especially over something like FSP. What kind of video card do you have so a PSU can be picked for your system? Just because something is rated more watts doesn't mean its better.

well, I dont have a gc yet but will be looking at what comes out in march and then go from there.
I was looking at the 8600 Ultra, which seems to nice, but I will want to see what ATI has to offer, as I prefer ATI but it comes down to the best bang for the buck in the end!!

heck, when these new cards come out, the price on the dx9 cards should drop quit a bit, so maybe even picking up a dx9 card and then ocing it might not be a bad idea then!!

I forget what your budget was, but 630W is overkill for that system. Second, $80 after rebate for a 630W PSU is cheap and I'm sure they cut a lot of corners on that thing.

well, my system will include the items I mentioned. and I will eventually oc the cpu, at which time I will buy a cpu cooler. also, I have the audigy platinum sound card and a hau 150pvr card, and will also use 2 other hd's from my old system.

so in the end it will look like this,
e4300, eventually ocing it
S3
2 gigs ram, overlocking is a possibility for when I oc the cpu
a gc from above, if I buy a dx9 card ill oc it
3 hd's
sound card
pvr card
cpu cooler

so if the FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX500-A, 2.0 version, 2 SATA, PCI Express, 500W, is good enough for all that I just mentioned, then I will go with that. everyone seems to recommend it, but I just want to make sure I have enough watts for what my system will be in the end.

not sure if this is important or not, but I usually leave my pc on for extended periods of time as in days and going into week without turning it off!!

I understand where you're coming from. Try one of those PSU calculators online to get a rough idea. My main thing is I just would not buy a Raidmax PSU.

np, I hear ya and appreciate any and all help I can get. I might just get the Fortron one since I have also thought about maybe cutting down on the internal hds and having them set up as externals and only having them on when I trully need them.

If it's any help, I had that 500W FSP on an Athlon64, 1GB RAM, 2 HDD, 3 optical and a Radeon x1950Pro...plus case fans and things like that. Main thing is just buy a quality PSU.

ok, the more I waited the more I would 2nd guess myself about this ram or that ram, this psu or that psu so last night I said screw it and just ordered the stuff in the first post!!

If it dont say PC Power and Cooling on the PSU, then your should spend the extra money to get it. your rig's only as good as the power supply.

PC Power & Cooling is a brand. I like Seasonic better.

Don't know if you've bought your PVR card yet but go with a Happauge PVR-150 or PVR-160 if you haven't purchased anything already. Great card with hardware-based encoding and it's fairly cheap at $59-69 after MIR. Watch for them in CompUSSR, CC, and BB ads.

oh yeah, I got it a while back the 150 one. ill be taking it from my old system to my new one.

im still trying to get my hands on snapstream, but every time they have it for free ar they run out of stock FAST!!
