Okay I have a copy of Win 2K that got installed over a network. When it asked for the CD key, I put it in and it said it is invalid. I know it works cause I have used it on other installs. How can i fix this? Problem Solved.

Next problem:I have a 30.7GB hard drive. It is already partitioned 15GB for Win Me, 7.5 for whatever, and 7.5 for Win 2K. I would like to change this to a better setup, any suggestions. I have partition magic 6.0.

Also What would be the best way to back up my data before I partition? Is there any way to move programs from Win Me to Win 2k, or do i just need to reinstall them all. Thanks for your help. LMK

98 and me keys will not work with 2k. the keys for upgrade and full version are different, so make sure you have the correct key.

I don't know if you're playing but dude, you ain't got a legitimate copy of W2K. What MS has done to detect this, I have no idea. how long ago was the first install made with this or the original cd? timeout?

good answer:)

I'd never try to install an OS from unknown source. Who knows if the code has been altered. Try at least find a good copy to evaluate.

You're STILL trying to get win2k installed?

<I asked another anandtecher for his key and his was the exact same as mine>

geez, damaged the original disk during a copy, now your personal cd key is the same as a fellow anandtecher, what are the chances?

Well the chances are good enough cuase it happened. I didn't even know the guy I asked for his key. This is a legitimate copy of Win 2K as well. I will give microsoft a call on monday. I would have done it sooner, but don't like tech support waits. Thanks for not believing me everybody. I'm just kidding, i know how this would look to me as well.

yeah. the ones from UT store don't need a key. we are just special to the people at MS (of course this would happen with anyone if you gave them unholy amounts of money).

can't you just transfer the files through windows explorer while you're running win2k? you wouldn't be able to access win2k if it was formatted w/ NTFS thru WinME.

PS Got one of them UT Win2k CDs...they rock at 5 bucks each. Hook 'em, Horns!
