Euro, road trip would be awesome! Can you take those UK cars to other countries? That'd be scary drivin like that...opposite side of the road and all.
 
Hey buddy, I think I have to tell you, the price is good because the steering wheel is on the wrong side of the car. It must have been rebuilt in an accident or something. I just want to tell you this now to save you trouble down the road.
 
Plate cloning is real and very simple as you can just order a plate with whatever you want online. Crooks just copy a valid plate from a similar vehicle and use that, that way it won't ping as a marked car on the ANPR cameras that most police traffic vehicles have. Not only that, the speed camera story is also true. Fake plate means you can blow past any red light or speed camera you want.

He's talking about the UK dumbass, where police cars have plate recognition cameras and the entire countryside is littered in speed cameras.

A shame that an isle which produced/produces such fine automobiles is so tyrranistic against them 😉 I kid, I kid

I've taken my mates A3 to The Ring 😀, went to a car park and then decided to drive out on the right side of the road in europe 😀 non of my mates realised until I saw a car coming straight at us and was thinking wtf? Then realised I was on the wrong side of the road 😛 whoops. The funny thing was this was after about 5hrs of d riving to The Ring and on the way there we were okay. Just a single moment of lapse concentration and I was on the wrong side of the road 😛

Took my mates S3 to Prague and were were fine on the way there and back. Hit 160mph on the german autobahns. There wouldn't be much left had we crash, crazy that they let you do that on certain roads!

also, what's the deal with blurring out the plates? i do it too, but i don't get why it's so important to do so.

The Euro spec e36 Evo is the one to go for. 320hp out of the door. My friend had one back in the day, a convertible in Estoril blue. Very nice car, and very quick.
 
Congrats with the car! That sport button is very cool. It totally changes the dynamics of the car.

I wouldn't feel too bad about your mileage. I just filled up my 335i and calculated I got about 15MPG.

Just had a quick look on autotrader and you could have picked up a similar spec 2004 reg for 16k (just 3k more) – did you not consider getting a slightly newer model?

I was considering it, but my car has had a oil service and has had it's InspII done, so the next ones due in 12-13k miles, new front discs, front pads and rear pads and 4 new tyres so thats £1.5k in savings, so thats realistically at least 3.5-4.5k that I would need to spend more. More often then not the M3 needs something doing before you buy it and I found one that didn't need anything.

The 2003+ have rear leds and a slightly redesigned bumper. I'd also probably get heated seats, electric folding mirrors, bluetooth and the mk4 dvd sat nava computer. I couldn't really justify the 3.5-4.5k for that and lower miles with a big InspII service coming along.

3.5-4.5k on a 13k is a chunk for not much in the end. Well obviously if I was loaded I'd have spent it 😛 I'll put the savings in to track days. I have Brands Hatch on Sunday and a m3cutters day at North Wealds airfield on the 11th April.

The mpg is quite cool in that I don't have to work it out manually 😛 no car I have owned had a fancy 'computer' 😛 The cars meant to be driven so I'm not fussed on the mpg. I don't drive it to work so that keeps things down but if I had to do 60miles per day that would be crazy!

Really enjoying the SMG and the cars soooo wide compared to my S2000. The interior is wide! I suppose it's all relative though. The S2000 was very snug but comfy.

The E46 is suppose to be quite some bit more gentle then the E36! I've never driven one but it would be very fast!

Tempted to pick one up myself as a daily driver, but still on the fence. 1) I'd be tempted to mod yet another car which defeats the purpose of a daily driver and 2) still wouldn't drive the M in any circumstances I already don't drive the Cobra (eg: bad weather, stop/start driving short distances, etc). What to do...

That's fair enough, I see your angle. Hope you enjoy it, and don't be afraid to give it some.

I like edging the backend out around wet roundabouts. Try blipping the throttle at low revs in second gear – that gets you the most sideways slippage with the dsc turned on before it reigns in the power, etc.

Oh, and LED rear lights FTW 😎
 
I would love to do an E36 with an LS1 swap. Sounds like an amazing package to me, although traction must be an issue.

They do them in 240SX's which are 500lbs lighter and geared more heavy (4.08 vs 3.23)

Traction is an issue though, not as bad as the 240SX.

I'd get out and race more since you pour so much money into a non-DD.

It was a DD until I quit my office job and went back to contracting. Temp gauge on the Cobra doesn't ever move between building to building all day, and I don't care to subject it to that, much less getting 50 miles per tank. Though I wouldn't want to subject an M3 to that abuse either, so I'm stuck with a beater either way.
 
Congrats man...very jealous. Love that car...would definitely own one if I was single and could spend my money on whatever I wanted. I probably would have gone for the manual...but to each his own. Have a blast driving it!
 
nice car. my old roomate had a 2001 E46 m3 . we lived in LA at the time so it was in traffic a lot but when the roads were clear that car was ridiculous. really quiet and still a fairly luxurious ride at the same time somehow so it struck a great balance. much quieter than another friends 350z ...

DivideByZero and RichUK have M3's. I have an S2000 but have been banging on about the E46 M3 for ages as I've always wanted oen but the insurance was obscene.

Not sure if I could justify an M3 if I was commuting 60miles per day but I'd think f0ck it, might as well do it! Makes no finanacial sense to smash down 17-25mpg diong 60miles per day commuting but I guess it woudl be fun 😀

The engine is designed to be driven fairly hard so hence the way it revs. Definitely got to use it but I guess most drivers never take their car on to the track so never really get to take advantage of it's full power. But people like to come back and sit in a nice car and to realise that it 'could' do this or that.

The price was a sweet deal and it took quite a while to find the right one. I'll be giving it some but I'll be patient so I won't stack the car.

25th Brands Hatch is where I'll give it some welly! No police and speed limits so it'll be really fun. Can't wait to see what I can do. I'll try that in 2nd gear on the track 😀

What tyres do you use? I have the OEM conti sport contact M3 ones.
