More money needs to spent on Hyodrogen fuel, as an alternative. I think this will be the fuel of the future.

lol, do you have any idea where hydrogen comes from and how it is produced?

Yes I do, and you don't need fossile fuel to produce hydrogen.

Ok, then how do you propose hydrogen be produced?

how about electrolisis using power from an Integral Fast Breed Reactor.

If they're gonna make an eco-friendly car they'd probably have plans to take care of their creation.

Using hydrogen producing organism. Organism that produce hydrogen by just living.

Which is why so many people purchase Prius'. It's not always about $ as the OP implies.

Some other factoids he shared with me: Toyota will be offering a hybrid version of each of their models in just a few years.
You didn't need to go to some kind of "insder" to learn that one. Toyota has always said that this is their plan.

Also, did you know that a Prius can power your house during a blackout??? :p

and where does somebody get an inverter that accepts 276V DC?
Wal-Mart?

that's completely unproven on a production scale and the candidate microbes also produce greenhouse gases CO or CO2 as a byproduct, which defeats half the purpose of switching from fossil fuels.

not bad, but if nuclear reactors were increased in use, you could just simply divert fossil fuels from electricity production to transportation.

Electrolysis has the simple problem that it's an extra step in energy conversion, no process is ever 100% efficient, so you lose energy just by converting forms. You might be better off just diverting existing fossil fuel use if we were to build more nuclear reactors.

Some of the candidate microbes do not produce greenhouse gases.

Traffic in the United States
  • America is a nation on wheels. To get where they need to go, 90 percent of Americans say they usually drive, reporting an average of 87 minutes a day behind the wheel. For car commuters, it's an average of 100 minutes; for parents with children at home, an average of 104 minutes (compared with 77 minutes for people without kids at home).
There's your fuel wasting culprit, NOT what you drive!

You DO have choices to cut that commute, but it involves sacrificing a larger home for a smaller one nearer your employment. If you're so goddamned concerned about saving fuel, then YOU bite the bullet and move closer to work. It's none of your fvcking business what type of vehicle others use to commute. There's a good chance your puddle jumper, eensie-mobile, econobox, death trap uses as much fuel per year on your insanely long commute, as the soccer mom uses in her 4K annual miles running errands in her monstrous SUV.
