Been using the internet since I was 12. Never had a virus, never used a firewall, antivirus, spyare. The few times I did the "free scans" I never found anything.

Downloaded a torrented version of office and installed it.

Bam, shit ton of viruses :( been working on cleaning it out for about 2 hours now. /sigh

Live and learn, I had a good run going

Downloading anything with an executable from an untrusted party is just asking for viruses/malware. Like I say, there's two typical ways you get infected... you run an executable that contains malicious code or you open a malicious file with a program that has an unpatched exploit.

You chose #1.

Yeah I got cocky since I only use pretty private 250 users and under sites. Been only using and sharing on those for about 6 years now and this is the first time anything has ever gotten through. Not sure the poster meant too since he has been a amazing poster, think he just got caught reposting a file that he didn't check carefully enough.

why didnt you just get open office?

Drop boxes on the school system for assignments only accept docx files.

that is ridiculous.

Yep, the students bitched about it. They sell Office 2007 and Vista to the profs for 10$ for both and charge us full price. Than set the dropboxes to accept only docx files. Nothing we can really do about it, so until openoffice gets docx This is what I have to do :p
