Finally getting DSL at the new place

Some of you might remember I had ordered a full T1 service here for the new house since I'm currently on a Verizon EVDO card in a KR1. Slow as heck with all of us sharing it (and horribly on patch tuesdays when the patches get pulled into squid).

Anyhow, I ordered the T1 and a AT&T line man came out to prep the lines. He stopped by and asked why the full circuit vs just getting DSL. I told him how it wasn't available in our area. AT&T had even flyered our doors a month before, but when you called to order our area wasn't covered.

Then he mentions he installed a fiberhut by the school (about 10k feet) 6 months ago. He looks into it, no-one has DSL since they installed the unit no-one updated the computer to let them sell service. He fought with AT&T internally for about a month to find the right people to finally make the changes needed so I could place the order.

So, I have (if all goes well) reasonable service (1.5-3mbit, too far for the 3-6mbit service) coming Wednesday along with a bunch of very happy neighbors who can order it as well.

Annoying to deal with, but happy to find the places like AT&T still have an employee or two who will stick with a problem and get it solved...

Congratualtions.

Very similar to what I did when lived in northeast Georgia. Just as I was getting a T1 installed to fire up service for my subdivision, BellSouth didn't want to lose the business so they finally fired up DSL too.

I had a similar experience with REI. I'm on a college campus and had no way to pickup a mountain bike I got on a ridiculous sale ($175 for a $600 bike) that was sitting in the store 10 miles away. So I called to ask if it would be alright for a cab company to pick it up on my behalf. The bike tech there put it in the back of his Honda Element and drover in the pouring rain to my dorm and got me my bike.

It is the little onions we give in life that truly matter.

For that, I would write a letter and mail it to his supervisors commending how helpful he was and how he went the extra mile for you.
