Finally gave up on Firefox. Gone back to explorer.

I actually love FF. They definitely need to speed it up as IE9 and Chrome are faster or feel like it at least.

The issue with Chrome is that stupid address bar is close to useless.

For example there's a few threads I read everyday like:
"CyanogenMod 9 Discussion i9100"

I can type "dis" in FF and it will pull up my history. The problem with a single unified search bar is that Google is focused on pulling search results, but I want history. There's pages I visit almost everyday and I can't figure out how to have those pull up first.

Chrome is practically USELESS for pulling up history. i tend to remember the title or articles I read and the site I read it on. For example, I remember a "Fluxi" kernel on xda. Google chrome insists on doing a search or pulling up content in another thread, but FF diligently searches the title and url and will pull title "fluxi" from "xda-developers.com"

Shrug. I absolutely hate Chrome because of this, but its speed is phenomenal.

I have to agree with you one that

but the positives of Chrome are much more than this negative which is why I switched to it :)

I'm on the same page with FF, I tried to switch as I just wanted something faster but always found myself back on FF. I also don't like how Chrome tries to force you into this whole cloud business. I want my favorites, history and everything to be stored locally so I can back it up myself and just have it on my own system not someone else's.

In Linux I find FF is much better than it is in Windows too.

One browser being faster than another - On a few customers' laptops lately I've been asked to look into browser performance issues (the laptops in question were made between 2006-2008, Vista, and a laptop that had been upgraded to Win7). I found it interesting that FF/Chrome absolutely wiped the floor with IE9 on Google Maps (satellite view, scrolling around, zooming in and out) and Flash (Robot Unicorn Attack).

I tried the same thing at home on my desktop and found that IE9 seemed to be a bit quicker than FF :) Neither were anywhere near as slow as IE9 on the laptops though.

I've just compared FF/IE/Chrome on google maps again and found them all to be of a very similar level of performance.

There is a Browser called SRWare Iron which is suppose to be like Chrome but without the negatives.

Also have you tried Opera? (I admit I haven't read all 3 pages of the thread so I apologize if Opera has already been suggested)

There are portable versions of both available if you want to kick the tires before committing to a regular install.

I've got more crashes since Firefox 3.6.x with Flash-related content, but I couldn't stop using FF even if I wanted to, the add-ons are too convenient.
