well i got my offer today and i'm slated to start on january 16... which is a lil over 2 weeks from now. problem is that i'm currently on vacation and will return on jan 3rd. if i tell my boss i'm leaving on the 3rd, i'd have given him a day less than two weeks.... is this bad? should i just call my boss tomorrow or send him an email to give my notice instead?

edit:
there's a holiday for us on monday, jan 2nd... and right now i'm hundreds of miles away from work until the 2nd.

go in and visit in person during one of your vacation days. that would show class imo.

i'm hundreds of miles away from work... not really feasible... would show some class tho just to do that lol

Just submit it the morning of the 3rd, or stop in on the 2nd or something. No problem with it.

If you do not give the minimum 2 week notice it could make a difference in getting paid for any unused vacation you may have.

call your boss. State that you will have your resignation letter first thing and will do anything necessary to train or make the transition easier for them.

i'm using them up as i type 🙂... my main purpose for this vacation was to go to interviews, not simply to use up all my vacation time just for the sake of using them up

give ur boss a call, and explain him/her the situation. tell him/her that you would like to come see him now, but its not possible

i cant see this being much worse or better

Are you Big 4? I doubt they'll notice you're gone.

EDIT: Better, they're used to losing ppl in a hurry.

nope not big 4... i'm not an auditor, but you're right on them losing people in a hurry.
