Finally finished MGS4

I will say I thought the part where it's like the old MG sucked since I never really played the series other than the original one waaaaaaaaaaay back. It seemed to break up the game for me since I'm not all nostalgic about the past games. Also, wtf was the stupid Otacon scene where he tells you to put in disc 2, then goes on how it's duel layer Blu-Ray so you don't need to do that??

I will also admit letting all the beauties latch on to me for awhile even though it was sucking my life...lol.

🙂

Just typical dorky Kojima humor referencing this part in the original Metal Gear Solid where you had to change discs (it was on two CDs for the PS1).

I thought the game was brilliant, the gameplay holds up pretty well on its own. MGS4 justified the purchase of the $400 PS3 all by itself, I don't even care if I don't play anything on it until RE5 hits on March, it was worth it.

However, Kojima let gamers play MGS4 like an action game but it's way more fun to play it like a tactical espionage game, I'm currently playing through The Boss Extreme and the game is still loads of fun to play even without watching the cutscenes.

If I have to be honest though, I think MGS3 was a better game, the boss fights were much cooler (the fight with The End is one of my favorites of all time), Naked Snake beats Solid Snake hands down, camo, food, great storyline, great secrets and easter eggs, tons of stuff to do and find plus the theme song (Snake Eater) was pretty cool and unusual for a MGS game.

Well, looks like I may never finish this one. I keep getting hammered on the deck of the Haven. I guess I'm just not very good at this game and I'm all out of rations...too bad. It would have been nice to see the end but the game has stopped being fun and now it's just maddening.

*shrug*

Don't get into a fight. Tranq everyone and just sneak right through.

Yeah great game. Ending cutscene was long though but no biggie. OP did you finish the cutscene after the credits? Or am I thinking about one of the other MGS's lol? Its been a while since I played.

Its a sneaking/stealth game, don't get into a firefight when you don't have to. I finished the game with 0 alerts, spend 80% of the game crawling on the ground.

Yeah I finished the one after the credits...when the credits came up I thought it was over but just left it on while I was doing something else...and wadda you know it continued. 🙂

riiiiight. im not knocking the game at all (i'd love to play the game), it's just very hard to believe a single game is worth the cost of a console.

Well, I finally finished it myself. Thanks for the tips on the deck of the Haven...stealth and tranq are the way to go. I also found it funny that a couple of tranq darts to the leg of the gecko not only made it fall down, but blow up too. However, I think some parts of the game near the end were needlessly frustrating. First off, the crawling through the microwave area near the end, I just can't hit the buttons as fast as they wanted and I almost threw the controller through the damn TV. Second, the fight with Liquid seemed to depend waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much on using the controller a certain way that you really hadn't the whole game. You can get through the first part of the fight fairly easily, then the second half the controls behave differently and you will just stand there getting nailed unless you rapidly alternate between R1 and R2 while moving the left axxis stick all around. That part was so frustrating I almost broke my thumb slamming the damn controller into my hand in frustration when it was seemingly not working.

Overall I liked the game, but I think the ending action left a lot to be desired. I guess if I was younger and a fan of all the old versions of MGS I may have enjoyed it it more...

The geckos didn't blow for me... They stayed down a lot longer than if I disabled their legs with regular bullets though. Tranq really is the way to go, and makes the game a lot easier.

Microwave part is annoying. I'm afraid of breaking my controller by replaying that part too many times. It's a really well done cinematic sequence though.

The final fight with the other dude was probably the hardest part of the game for me. A lot of it seemed like luck, and one screw up could cause some stupid non-stop combo that pretty much killed you. However, the music made it worth while, especially the final 2.

What a thrill...
With darkness and silence through the night....
What a thrill...

MGS4 + Blu ray made it worth it for me to get a ps3.

Still have to play uncharted, and am eagerly awaiting God of War 3.
