This download is an application for Creative Sound Blaster® X-Fi? series of audio devices. It restores 3D audio and EAX® effects for certain DirectSound®3D games in Microsoft® Windows Vista?. For more details, read the rest of this web release note.

This download supports the following audio devices only:

* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite Pro
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatal1ty® Pro
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic

Fixes:

* Enables the DirectSound3D game audio to be processed by your Sound Blaster X-Fi to deliver EAX effects, 3D audio spatialization, sampling rate conversion and hardware audio mixing. Without this, most DirectSound3D games will be reduced to stereo output without any EAX effects.

Requirements:

* Microsoft Windows Vista 64-bit or Windows Vista 32-bit
* Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi audio device listed above

Notes:

* Do not install this application if you do not play DirectSound3D games in Windows Vista.

Old news and a repost but can't hurt to have it on top for a few days in case others missed it as well...

Yeah, alchemy has been out for months now, and its not a driver, but a standalone program.

What I really want is an official package that includes the apps on the XP install disk, like the Audio Console and Mixer, instead of just the driver.

But then again, this is Creative Labs we are talking about, so I won't hold my breath. They'll probably just quasi-orphan the X-Fi under Vista to make us buy their upcoming marketing Gimmicks.

Yeah, I believe that what it really does is translate the legacy DirectSound (pre-Vista) calls that made EAX possible pre-Vista into OpenAL, since Microsoft pretty much re-wrote the audio HAL in Vista from stratch?

I believe it does have a small CPU cost, since basically what it does is interpret audio Calls from one API to other...but that's okay as long as it enables EAX...

Its not a resident program as far as I can tell, it just literally rewrites the dll.

But is it official? Some one linked a leaked ISO from Creative's forums but it got deleted pretty quickly.

I've seen some hacked versions of the XP apps that run in Vista...but I haven't tried out those.

the drivers were released July 10 07... how can that be a month old, if we are still in July 07 ?

and Creative never had some solid working drivers until right now, before it was all "vaporware"

Its a new version of an "old" utility (Since Dec-Jan IIRC)...and it's JUST a utility, not a driver. I've been using alchemy for months.

I'm sick and tired of its x-fi's Vista 64 crappy driver and apps.
It could very well be written by someone who is retarded.
And...Before I forget, someone please remind it to post a "BC" after its released date.
It should read "July 07 BC"
LOL
