Note is way too big. It's novelty factor will wear off and then you're stuck lugging around a small laptop. Best thing ever getting away from the note and going s4 active.

Some people will do that, others like me have had every generation of the Note so far, and like it quite a bit.

S4. I've seen em like new/mint condition for 350 or so, can't beat that for off-contract pricing really. Note 3 too big to me!

Good luck getting one in mint condition for $350 ; ) Let me know when you find one in good condition for this little. I'll buy it.

Realistically, expect to pay $370-$380 for one with scratches, and $400 for a scratch-less GS4.

Also, why is no one recommending the Nexus 5? It's better than the GS4 in almost every way except the cameras, and battery/storage, and even that is arguable depending on usage and needs.

In order of best to worst of the not bad/obsolete phones on VZW: Note 3 > Droid Maxx > SGS4 > One > Droid Ultra > Moto X. Those are the only phones I'd look at if I was to get a new one on Verizon.

I'd get the G2. It's got the S800 and it's not obnoxiously big. Some reviews I saw showed it having better battery life than the max. The screen is amazing also.

I'm in love with my Verizon Note 3. I use Nova launcher and I'm in bliss. I'm sure the Maxx and G2 are nice, but I couldn't go back. I've never been so happy with a phone.

With a removable battery and SD slot, nothing else compares. (IMO)

The G2 is out as the volume/power on the back of the phone are poor design IMO. I'd hate it.

After 5 days with the phone i don't even notice, besides double tapping the screen on/off is so damn easy i rarely use the physical button

And volume is just as easy to control on screen

But I think youd be happier with the note 3

Is it a concern for anybody that the Note 3 doesn't have custom ROMs? It is rooted at least.
Xposed and (eventually) Safestrap ROMs will sort out any aesthetic issues. You won't be able to get ahead of Samsung's Android update cycle, but (1) Android is in a major holding pattern since 4.1 and (2) you don't want to lose multi-window, S-Pen, etc anyway.

I would personally get the Moto X or droid maxx. I could get used to the button placement on the G2. Especially when you can just tap the screen to turn it on but if it's not your cup of tea that's understandable. The note 3 in my opinion is too big for what I use a phone for. The extra screen is nice the bulkiness outweighs the benefit.

Doesn't bother me personally, even from being a very satisfied CleanROM user with my Note 2.

I'm running a rooted AT&T Note 3 and between Xposed framework, app settings, Titanium backup, Greenify, and Ad Away, there's nothing I feel I'm lacking vs. a custom ROM. I have the look and feel I want, great battery life, bloat is disabled or frozen, and it's perfectly stable.

I looked at the note 3... honestly too big for a lot of people. for some, that's the appeal

I havent used a droid maxx, so I cant comment

S4 is not a better phone than the moto X. I'll trade you my wife's S4 straight up for a moto X right now (ATT)

HTC one is too bulky and skinned, great speakers, but otherwise blah....

the note 3 and the moto X would be the phones I would personally look at. (save for the maxx, not sure about that)
