Finally Displayport monitors!

I was checking monitors at Newegg, and they finally seem to have a decent selection of monitors with Displayport.

It's been months since I last looked, but last time I did they only had one. So I don't know when they started to get a good selection of them, but it certainly took long enough.

The one thing I don't like about Displayport is a similar thing as HDMI. I've never been a fan of how the monitor must be turned on for the connection to exist. With DVI and VGA, they have the cable signaling so that doesn't happen. I don't think it's a huge deal with just one monitor, but it becomes odd when you have two. 😛

My current monitors have Displayport, but I still use DVI.

are you sure it isn't a setting on the monitor? never had a problem with HDMI monitors turning on on their own

The issue isn't about them turning on by themselves or something like that, it's about the fact that when you turn them off, it severs the link between the source (video card) and the destination (monitor). In a dual-monitor situation, everything gets shifted around because Windows believes that you only have one monitor now.

I know what you are talking about, but I thought I heard someplace this was only an issue with certain Dell DisplayPort monitors, is it just true of all DisplayPort monitors? Cuz it is annoying. I use profiles to disable it and let it go to sleep instead of turning it off.

Not that you want to spend money getting around this conundrum, but I use the program Fences Pro to setup my desktop and then it remembers its profile based on desktop resolution.

I use this because I remote desktop a lot and it monkey's with the desktop layout like crazy. Fences auto-restores the desktop for me.

Heh, forums.anandtech.com/Fences ?
That is one slick 404! 😉
www.stardock.com/products/fences is correct... I think. 🙂
