Finally called to cancel my Sprint plan and they gave me this deal...

Sprint services depends on lot on the phone (maybe that's true for other providers too). Anyway, I have a motorola timeport (startac type phone) and have very little problem with reception except in large stores like Grocery Store or a Mall, then it's spotty.

Office buildings or other buildings (like my house) it works fine. In the last 1.5yrs never had a problem while driving.

----

Anyway, if you still have problems with dropped calls, keep track of them. Keep a notepad w/ you and jot 'em down. If it's really as bad as you say it is, they should at the very least offer to update or give you a new phone because the one you have is 'bad'.

If they don't, you have a legitimate reason to get out of your contract. They aren't living up to their terms (providing service). You'd still have to fight to get out of the fee, but, if you have a record of all the dropped calls you should be in good shape.

---

Anyway, my plan I get a discount from my company, I have 500 Anytime minutes and a ton of N&W Minutes. No PCS to PCS but I only have one phone and don't call others on their PCS very often. No wireless web (which sux at least on my phone). I think my plan is 30 or 35 a month before discount. This was a non-published plan that I got after telling them I was going to switch providers after my contract expired last year. I'm almost up again for a new plan, I think it's time to get a camera phone, will try and finagle [sic] that in my negotiations this year.

That was a very helpful, well written-out reply, dman... thanks! 🙂

Your welcome.

I should have added that while the phone service has been fine for me with sprint, their billing service is the worst billing service I've ever had to deal with. You need a Doctorate Degree in accounting and a minor in cellphone technology to figure it out.

I could go into details, but it's long and aggravating and probably the same experience everyone else has. In my negotiations for the second year they gave me a free month of service. I feel that made up for the lies. And this year I know what I'm getting so I have no complaints.

---BONUS---

BTW, for those of you who have sprint service, they have a residential long distance plan that's pretty cheap IFF you don't make a lot of calls.

Details:

There's no monthly fee, it's $.07/minute and you get 50 free minutes/mo. NOTE: Standard sprint billing crap applies, while they may waive the monthly fee: Your bill will show the fee is $5.95 per month and they charge taxes (and other FCC crap charges) on that then they give you a credit for $5.95. Thus, you still have a monthly charge for long distance, but if you compare, it's still cheaper than other plans that actually charge $4-7/mo for their $.05-$.07/minute plans AND you get 50 minutes free.

If you use a lot of minutes (over 50) you are probably better off with a different plan, a calling card, or your own personal satellite (some of you talk to much!). If you just want a cheap long distance plan on your home phone, and happen to have a sprint PCS plan anyway, it's not bad. You sign up at the SprintPCS Website. Click 'see special offers' and then 'sprint 50 at home'.

I used to have that plan but switched local phone companies and my current plan gives me unlimited long distance for one rate which is cheaper than my old plan was. Apparently it was a mistake of the local phone company but I'm sticking with it until they send me a letter. Then I'll probably switch back to the sprint plan.

So I finally got sick of the awful customer service and terrible reception, and called to cancel my contract (had 7 months left). I was paying:

$45/month + tax = $55/month
400 anytime minutes
Unlimited Nights & Weekends after 9pm
Unlimited PCS to PCS usage

The plan they offered (and I, like a dummy, ended up accepting... another 1-year contract to expire today, next year):

$40/month + tax = $50/month
750 anytime minutes
Unlimited Nights & Weekends after 8pm
Unlimited PCS to PCS usage

Was I had, or is that actually a decent deal?

If you currently use Sprint, feel free to post your current plan/minutes here.

EDIT: The reception isn't HORRIBLE, but it could be better.

Did you actually use all your time with the old plan? If not, then i can't see what benefit you get with the new plan, except evening starts 1 hour earlier...

That residential long distance plan isn't bad at all... I don't currently have a phone in my apartment, either. I normally use BigZoo on my roommate's phone... I'll have to check that out, thanks again for the info, you've been extremely helpful... 🙂
