I have some waterproof ones like that from Wolverine. Comfortable and I can walk through puddles and snow without hesitation.
Pretty much all I wear anymore are good boots. Superior to any shoe imo unless you play a lot of sports or something.

I am needing to buy a new pair for work. Work at an oil refinery so water/oil proof and slip resistant would be a plus. Also something warm for the winter as it is snowing with a high of 5 right now.

I've been working oilfield for almost 6 years. I muck around in plenty of saltwater and oil. These have proven to be reliable for me. They are made with a fiber like material that is more resistant to saltwater/water/oil than leather is. Leather is a bad material in our line of work.

I use combat boots pretty much exclusively for boot use. I've gotten others when the price is right, but they don't beat the combat boots, and usually cost a lot more. I keep my eyes open at the thrift shop, and when a good pair comes in, I squirrel them away. Average price I've paid is around $10 a pair.

Cheap boots just don't last for me. Believe me I've tried. I usually end up with feet that are soaked and frozen at the end of most days. On top of that I'm mucking around in saltwater so it is even worse than freshwater. To get a boot that will keep my feet dry and warm and last even a year with steel toes it costs me damn near $200. Just the cost of doing business is the way I look at it.

I used to have an analog picture that showed that, but I haven't seen it in years. Dunno what I did with it. Taking pictures is difficult. My camera has a bad battery, and I don't have a phone. I also try to limit images of myself online. I've broken that rule a couple times, but I don't want to make a habit of it.

Viberg 68 Pachena Bay

I abused a very comfortable pair of 0466 Winch everyday since 2009. The leather and soles still fine, but the leather at the toes are worn through. New soles and toe caps are going to cost $100, and it will last me at least 5-6 more years.

If you don't regularly treat your boots it will fall apart when abuse, specially if you work in wet condition.

I've destroyed a pair of chokerman in 1 season in Northern BC, because I didn't have a second pair to let it dry out. The woodsman each lasted roughly 2 seasons, however they are uncomfortable as hell.

I have a fairly strict policy of not using synthetics on my feet. I'll concede to a rubber insole, or light insulation for winter, but otherwise I want all leather. I'm pretty good about keeping my boots treated, but it only goes so far, and you're right about switching them up, but I seldom did that.

Leather will shrink in saltwater. I've had leather boots damn near have to be cut off to get them off at the end of the day. They also tend to not be the best for wet conditions either. If you're mostly in dry conditions then it's tough to beat the durability of leather.

Absolutely love Merrell's. Own quite a few and for the price, they last really well.

For serious work boots i have Red Wings right now.

For more casual abuse though (and easier on the pocketbook) i love my Merrells.

Hmmm, the 66 Hiker looks quite a bit like my old Fabiano Alps (the good version, not the swede embarrassment of the same name).

I've been contemplating going back to heavy hikers again after a decade of lights. I wonder if these have the oak layer in the sole like my Fabianos had?

The Viberg 68 Pachena Bay looks a bit more comfortable.
