I was thinking of getting this, but I don't really like war movies that much (I know this was a miniseries) aside from FMJ, Deer Hunter, Platoon, and Apocalypse Now, oh and now Inglourious Basterds. Maybe I'll rent it.

KT

BoB is a must see if you ask me. Rent it if you have to, but you WILL enjjoy it :)

It's just The Pacific.

lol at first I thought you were saying it's just the Pacific theater, who cares. Now I realize it's the name of the series.

How good is the transfer? I already own the dvd so it's all about quality comparison between upconverted dvds vs. The blu-ray xfer. They better not be like f'n Gladiator.

I would never buy that. As soon as you watch one part, you have to watch the entire series. Few movies or series pull me in so deep emotionally as Band of Brothers.

I told the Mrs. I will be getting this very soon. I watched the whole mini-series on spike yesterday (had a bad hang over) and the commercials and editing, along with SD version, just are not tolerable any longer.

BTW, my pop was part of the 3rd Army that hauled ass to make it to Bastogne. His orders made it sound like things were dire there. They did all they could to get there ASAP. He earned these medals during that campaign News clipping about one He earned the bronze for actions during the battle, and the Soldier's medal later, iirc.

wow, pretty sweet. the 101st takes a few jabs at the 3rd Army though, for Patton trying to claim glory by showing up after they had done all the work :D

Heh, my grandfather was in one of units on the frontline during the German offensive and helped hold Bastogne before they were reinforced by the 101st. I think he was irritated the 101 tried to claim the glory when they showed up late.
Awe inspiring pride and courage from all involved. I mean you are in the meat grinder, running out of all supplies, and you are still getting the job done, without the supplies or reinforcements.

And they may have been a bit bent someone thought they needed rescuing, of a sorts, but my pop said they were pretty damned glad to see them, the way he remembers it. :)

I would be too if I was starving, freezing, and gangrenous.

;)

It's effing spectacular. that's all there is to it. And when you consider that BoB is the only factual account compared to those that you do like....all the better. :)

Decent, but not as good as the HDDVD version at least by my eyes looking at those pics.

KT

yeah, but $40 > $150-300, imported from Japan, and using equipment that barely exists.

There are some serious differences in the still shots, but for the most part, the grain is intact on the BD.
