No, I still don't have a job, but after fighting that dasm SCSI stuff all day, I gave up on it, went back to good old IDE, and got Win2K up and running on a dual 266!

I might start liking it. If my '98SE box wasn't so reliable (as '98 goes) I might just start using 2K all the time.

Win 98 is for running HP scanners 😛, W2K is just so stable I almost never boot into 98 anymore.

I still have 2 machines running Klinux in the rack right now.
I have a goal of running all flavors of Winblows on machines around the house and one flavor of Linux.
Hmmm- that would be from WFW 3.11, 95 upgrade, 95A, 95B, 95C, 98, 98SE, NT4 WS, NT4 Server and 2000. That's 12 OSs, and that is about how many systems that I have cracking around here. I only have 6 different ones running now, so I guess I have a little more work to do. :Q

viz, you are forgetting some of the early versions of windows. I'm looking at windows/386 right now. Here are the system requirements: 1 Mb memory, 2 Mb recommended, DOS 3.1, One 1.2 Mb (5 1/4&quot😉 disk drive, hard disk drive with 2 Mb available, graphics card EGA, VGA or compatible, use of mouse is optional.

Just opened the box it could be your lucky day as it also has the original version of windows in it, along with MS write.

Viz, what were you trying to do with the SCSI?

I haven't had any trouble with it and have been using it for years. I even have the technical 'taboo' of running IDE and SCSI in the same system and dual-booting from different interface HDD's.

Original version of Windows? Was that called ver 3.0? Yes, that might be fun. With all the obsolete equipment that has been donated to the school over the years, I have kept some of the classic IBMs for whatever reason. Keep thinking that they will be collectable.
If memory serves me, wasn't that version able to run on a 286 or on a 386 in '386 enhanced mode,' which could actually run 4-8bit applications at once?
Yeah if you would like to send it over for my &quot;museum&quot; I sure would take it.
BTW that 24 port hub has been put to good use at the school.

What I was trying to do was actually try to use some SCSI CD Roms and 1 gig hard drives in a couple of different Win 95 school machines.
In one application, I was trying to use an ISA 50 pin Acculogic controller card with either a CD Rom alone, or a hard drive and CD Rom together. System boots off of a 1.2 gig IDE drive.
The legacy Acculogic card installed without trouble. Windows device manager is happy. No matter what I do, the system will not see the SCSI drives in device manager.
I have tried a different identical controller card, ISA slot, cables, drives, SCSI IDs, all without success.
The other system is an IBM with an on-board Adaptec 78xx controller. This system can see either the CD Rom or a hard drive when installed alone, but not with a HD and a CD Rom together. Again I am booting from an IDE drive, and was using terminator jumpers on only one of the drives when both were in line.

 
DOH!

SCSI problem solved.

Of the 6 50 pin cables that I have, 4 of them do not work! The 2 good cables work fine in the 2 computers that I have.

Need to hunt up some more of those rascals.
