Finally, a glossy screen 20.1 LCD for under $375!!

After trying several of the popluar 20.1" LCDS being recommended, I was left sort of disappointed with the matt finish offered on most models. I started searching for a glossy screened monitor that wouldn't break the bank. I picked the AL2032WA up from a local shop that offers a 3 yr. exchange policy on any Acer model for $367 plus tax. I simply love it. The color gradients are completely smooth, witho no evidence of banding. There were no dead pixels, and color settings out of the box seem perfect. This monitor uses a 8 ms S-IPS panel, similiar to the panel used in the NEC 20WGX2. Battlefield 2 looks wonderful with no ghosting, along with the Tomb Raider Legends Demo. I have to say that I would highly recommend this monitor as a cheap alternative to the 20WGX2. I will post some pictures if anyone is interested.

Here is a link for the monitor at Acer's website. I will take some pictures of mine in person and upload them tomorrow for you.

what's the appeal of the glossy? Doesn't that cause glare when you have light shining on it?

nah. Think about it as printing pictures on white paper or photo paper. The glossy screen (ala photopaper) makes things look more vibrant than the grainy regular LCDs.

Professional photo-finishers offer both matte and glossy according to preference. Vibrant may be a good description of the latter and glass or plastic covered (or integrated) displays, however it is not necessarily a realistic image and both can suffer from glare. I prefer my images unmolested and am even less tolerant if any "filter" can cause glare. If lighting conditions are ideal and constant then maybe but otherwise nein.

I think this model went out of production, I was dead set on getting it a couple months back but most sites list it as out of stock, but the F-20 model(same thing, only with TV tuner and other connections)can still be had.

I noticed this LCD for about $500 at Directron when I was buying two months ago and it looked very compelling, but I couldn't find any reviews or opinions at all and I didn't have much use for a widescreen in any case. For that price though it looks like a killer monitor.

The coating greatly increases the perceived black level in the daytime and also reduces the screen door effect. Some people are turned off by the glare it causes, but I wouldn't even consider buying any LCD without it.

Ok just for you info acer just released an AL2216 model that is 22" and I have seen it at some costcos for $399 plus tax. I think that it is a great deal considering that costco has a great return police and that for $25 more and some tax its a better deal and available in most areas

the al2216 is not a glossy though.

the new al2051w is a glossy. the entire 51 series is glossy.

ive had the 2032 older non glossy version. not a bad monitor..

the new al2051w by the way is $320 and is the same panel.

might as well save the money and get that.
