Where the hell are the NT drivers for the VooDoo3. There has been one update since the card came out and that was last August and you STILL can't use it with dual processors.

"The 6.34's are "leaked" <chuckle>"

I really don't believe that NVIDIA leaks the drivers on purpose like others claim. Some of the leaked drivers comes from OEM's. Remember that NVIDIA is the only company now that uses 3rd party manufacturers to design the video card. They don't have as tight of control as 3dfx, ATI or Matrox who design their own custom 3D cards. Don't get pissed off at NVIDIA because you downloaded leaked drivers which don't work and don't think because they don't work, their driver support is really bad.

"I'm almost positive that NO nvidia drivers are WHQL-certified. Always wondered why they don't bother doing this. I don't know if they just can't be bothered? But with their "partnership", I really wonder what is up?"

WHQL certification is a very lengthy process. I remember during my days at Intel, it would take forever to get a product WHQL certified. Certification only applies to OEM's. They need these drivers so that they can display that Windows 98/2000/NT certified sticker on their systems to sell more systems. It doesn't mean the drivers haven't been tested to work with Windows or DirectX.

"BTW, I wonder if one of the reasons nvidia is having "issues" with their DX8 drivers is because DX8 uses PROGRAMMABLE T&L, not the hardcoded kind the GeForce's "use" (in 3dMark2000)?"

Don't base your conclusion on unreleased leaked drivers. You can assume that once a final released driver is available. I am having problems with the ATI AIW Radeon using their leaked DX8 drivers with a DX8 application. I have not tested it with my Voodoo 3 3000 PCI yet.

Of course it doesn't, but it does mean that if something goes wrong with your system the drivers can't be to blame. WHQL certified essentially means the drivers will never cause anything to compromise your system's stability and will be bug-free for all of Microsoft's requirements.

A Windows NT/2000 box running soley WHQL hardware and drivers will never ever crash. I don't know about you, but that's a pretty desirable goal to aim for.

That is not what WHQL means. It means that Microsoft places certain guidlines for how the drivers should treat certain calls and commands. Then their are tests to verify whether the drivers are doing what Microsoft wants them to do. Software developers try to design their software to follow Microsofts guidelines. Sometimes, there will be problems with certain applications or certain drivers however just because it is WHQL certified, doesn't mean it won't fail. Its Microsoft we are talking about you know.

if we were to assume that Windows doesn't crash due to instabilities in their code, then BFG would be right

but...in my experience...windows just plain crashes sometimes.

machines may be infallible, but the humans that designed and built them sure weren't.

That's exactly what I said isn't it? ...and will be bug-free for all of Microsoft's requirements.
Microsoft makes sure the drivers handle everything Windows requires in a correct way.

Its Microsoft we are talking about you know.

What is that supposed to mean? You'd better not be one of those tiresome cliche MS bashers. If somebody has problem with their machine 100% of the time they blame MS when 99% of the time it's their fault for not setting it up right.
