Hardware, would you say you have posted something slightly positive for 3FDX?

Is now the same with the nvidia leaked and the 3dfx released beta drivers!
I can hear the zombies crying with the driver hassle now starting with v5 too!

Really, the only reason these beta drivers were released, was for the Tribes2 beta testers.

I'm VERY curious as to what they are getting out of these drivers.

The HSR benchmarks look very interesting if they can work out the bugs and get it to work correctly.

<< You mean make the consumer guinie pigs for driver development. >>

That was a pretty dumb statement. Alot of people like testing out different drivers etc...It lets them find which one works best for them... cause it might be a version that never got offically released.

you assume these drivers will be unstable.

how nice (and surprising) of you

Just when you think "hey, maybe Hardware's NOT totally obsessed with bashing 3dfx", you come up with a statement like this.

<rolls eyes>

BTW, where are nvidia and ATi's DX8 drivers? 3dfx had WHQL-certified DX8 drivers out almost a month ago.

Detonator 7.x + DX8 = Crap (by consensus)

BTW and slightly OT, has nVidia ever had an official driver release?

I think this is not a bad move really....

Personally I prefer to stick to offical drivers from 3dfx or nVidia, but there are some people that like to play with the new tweaks or get every bit of performance they can and so for those people why not release beta drives? The company has them anyways.

Personally I won't use them, but it's ok to have them.

lol, instead of saying that 3dfx is making driver improvements often, which is good, he says "3dfx takes the same path as nvidia"

Let's see. The beta 1.04.01's were released 11/28. The WHQL 1.04.00 were released on 11/9. And the 1.03's were released on 9/24.

Every two weeks? Hardware, you need a new calculator.

Wingz... that was just stupid, if your going to go on ripping on Hardware as much as you can atleast choose something good to pick on him for.

What do you want? Oh well NVidia release their drivers every 11 days 2 hours 9 minutes and 32 seconds?

Sorry if it was a bit trivial, Dulanic. Maybe I should've just taken the angle that snow did. ;)

It's just that I don't think it's so cut and dry. I think that Hardware is actually quite bright. It's just that he enjoys getting under people's skin. And although I know it's just a way of getting attention, I simply don't understand the goal.

I am just sick of some very stupid dudes here:

Why are 3dfx releasing Beta drivers?
Because our customers have been asking us to do so.
As a company 3dfx are committed to providing the best levels of support we can. We extensively test each of our official drivers before releasing them to the public. This includes covering different CPU's, motherboards, applications and games. When combined with different OS's this becomes a significant task and takes a long time. This has frustrated a numbers of our end users who what 'action now'. So for those people who are prepared to take the risk we will provide drivers earlier in the cycle.

We also benefit, even with the extensive testing we do, we cannot possibly cover all the varied hardware and software combinations that exist. By monitoring your comments we can be made aware of potential release problems earlier.

Why has 3dfx not released beta drivers in the past?
Simple, we have been constrained by our contractual obligations to other organizations.

When can we expect the next Beta
Our plan is to release beta drivers every two to three weeks. When we are happy with the quality of the driver we will take it through the complete QA process and make it available as an official release on our web site.

Why mostly 3dfx zombies are throwing so much bs around here ?

Then why do you keep posting attention-seeking threads?

Hardware, I tend to shoot down everything you say, and I would hardly call myself a 3dfx zombie, and I would hardly consider what I say to be BS. Snow Patrol, you're funny, you post "Hardware, you suck" in every one if his threads, keep it up :)
