Finalizing Build

I'm just finishing choosing some parts of my new pc I'm going to build and I have a few questions.

Case: I don't have alot of money to spend on this pc (about $700 Canadian for everything minus monitor + OS) and was wondering which case to choose. I have narrowed it down to a few choices

--> Raidmax Scorpio 868 (Anyone have any feedback on this one, it has a 420w power supply but some people say it is low quality) --> $ 80 CAD
--> Nikao G3 / Cube / Zeus (All come with 350w power supply but I'm not sure Nikao is a good brand, probably more like generic) --> $ 50-60 CAD
--> Generic Case (With anywhere from 350w supply to 500w, obviously is generic, could explode at any moment but is cheap) --> $35-55 CAD
--> Axio case with 480 w power supply (never heard of em) --> $69 CAD
--> Enermax CS-3171L w 350 w power supply (supposedly good brand) --> $88 CAD
--> PCX Design Demo w 500w power supply (never heard of em, probably generic) --> $75
--> Antec SLK3700AMB (Obviously my first choice, 350w antec power supply, except is very costly)
--> $105 CAD

My first question is: I don't have alot of money to spend so which would be your choice if you were in my shoes. I know a case isn't something to skimp on, but was hoping to keep it resonable.
How good are Raidmax cases/power supplys?
If I can't afford the Antec, which would be the second choice? or even with as small a budget as mine, should I go for the Antec for the solid name/reliability?

Second Question: I am looking for a cd burner, I have seen tons of names all around the same price and was wondering which is supposed to be the most reputable out of : Asus, LG, Liteon, Samsung, Benq

Thanks alot for the help, I hope i posted this in the right spot! :beer:

The Antec is really the way to go, but if I didn't have the money, I would get the Enermax if it does in fact come with an Enermax PSU. I've seen some Enermax cases that come with generic PSU's.

As for the CD-RW, LiteOn is what I would get.

The Antec is on another level compared to those cases. If you have the means, don't hesitate getting it; especially since cases can last you for several years while you upgrade other items. Consider the quality of the power supply too.

My second choice would be the Raidmax Scorpio, since I actually owned one a while back. It's a bit noisier than the Antec though. It was a sturdy case, and the power supply worked well.

Samsung and LiteOn are my two choices for CD-RWs.

Tnx for the help guys,

What about the Axio case? I've heard they make power supplys that are pretty generic but reliable

I've narrowed it down to either the Antec SLK3700AMB, the Raidmax Scorpio 868 or the Axio case

I like the axio because of it's looks and it has a 480w power supply, I just don't kno whether the supply will actually last or explode.
--> My only problem with the Antec is that it only has 1 fan, and I would need to purchase another for input which would bring the total cost for that case to around $140 CAD including tax

Any other choices which are around $60 american that people could suggest?

--> Also more input on the Optical drives plz, I'm leaning towards the LG

Tnx in advance.

The Antec's 1 fan is a 120 mm, so you almost certainly don't need an intake fan unless you're planning to use 4-5 hard drives like my music server does.

Actually even then I just added an ultra-slow / silent Nexus 120mm intake fan out of paranoia, my case temps were low even with the 5 hard drives.

Tnx Dave for the input,

Do you think if I oc'ed my Barton 2500+ to a 3200+ in the Antec case (with 2 120 mm fans) the airflow would be enough for me not to need an after market HSF?

--> What do you think the temps would be?

Tnx😀

You'll be happy with any Antec Truepower PSU 350+ watts. For upgradibility i'd get ~400 watts. Your case temps have nothing to do with your CPU temps for the most part. While a cool case helps, and aftermarket HSF is critical imo for overclocking. Overclocks have been done on the stock HSF before, but i wouldn't recommend it.

Nawadays what is the recommended wattage to get when looking for a power supply?

Also what do all the numbers by the 12 v, 3.3 v, ... mean?

Tnx guys :beer:

Anyone ever heard of the A-Top X-Gamer?
--> for same price as Antec case it has a 400w power supply, 120 mm rear fan, 80 mm front intake + 80 mm side intake, also is better looking and comes with added extras

--> Then again I don't know how high quality it is and am still thinking about the Antec

- Also I've heard tons of really great things about the Abit NF7-S, but my friend who works at a computer store says that the ones which work fine are amazing, but there are lots which break in the first 3 weeks
--> Any feedback on that?

Tnx:beer:

Stick with the Antec. There are tons of brands out there, but I just like to pick one and stick to it.

NF7-S is a great overclocking board; get one if you can.
