final word on correct reading? Q6600

i've recently been only using RealTemp 2.24 to get temp readings on my cores

here are my temps:

Realtemp:
TJMax = 95C
core: 63, 53, 54, 54


Coretemp 0.97.1
TjMax: 100C
68, 68, 59, 59

OCCT:
68,59, 69, 59


WHO IS CORRECT for the Q6600 g0?

so nobody knows whats the TJ MAX of the Q6600? 95C or 100C?

nope, interesting point is that both coretemp and realtemp will show you the same delta to TJmax even though they assume different TJMax values.

This is common data given by the DTS that will let you know just how much headroom you have.

my readings on Real Temp 2.24 right now and heres the temps:
Q6600 TjMax = 95C

Distance to TJ Max: 40,43,51,49 (i know this is Tj Max - Core temp but what else does it signify?)
Core Temp: 55,52,44,47

@ what temp will my Q6600 automatically throttle down? and which sensor does it use to get that temp?
71C? the CPU temp i get in the bios?

well they're sitll both right mathematically because:

RealTemp
(*Assumed*) TJ Max = 95
Core Temp Reading = 55
Delta to TJ max = 40

CoreTemp
(*Assumed*) TJ Max = 100
Core Temp Reading = 60
Delta to TJ Max = 40

the adjustments are made in the core temp readings, with RealTemp showing 5c lower readings.

I would just like to know the official word (if there is one) so i don't overheat my CPU for long periods of time (>71C) I.E. when Real Temp reads load temps of 69c

They are all correct - realtemp has a TjMax value ten degrees lower than the other. When I run that it says I'm idling lower than ambient temperature so that reading is generally not believable. (duh!) If you add 10 to all values produced by realtemp you SHOULD find them to be the same as coretemp.

with my Q6600, the difference is 5c with realtemp being 5c lower than coretemp/occt temp monitor

Are you running them side by side and noting the temps instantaneously?

yes... the difference in core temp readings between RT and CT are definitely 5c apart, this is due to the TJ Max Constant (set by each program) minus the Delta/Distance to TJ Max.

I've tried two systems (P5EWS Pro, X38 based and DFIX48LPLTT2R, X48 based) with the same CPU and never see a discrepancy like that outside of the TjMax delta.

It really doesn't matter what temperature is displayed by either RT or CT, since it is based off of Tjmax. The important thing to note is the delta to Tjmax, that will tell you if you are getting too close to the max temp, whatever it is, and having throttling kick in.

If you have a 30deg delta from tjmax, does it really matter if one program reads 59 instead of 64? You still know you are 30C below Tjmax.
