Hate to say this, but 512 megs of ram is the bare min. of RAM needed with an MMORG. I currently have 768 megs in my computer and it crawls compared a friends lesser (I have a faster cpu, HD, and much newer video card) system with 1.5 gigs of ram.

I've been running everything on low with my current system, and in everyplace but cities, I get very little lag:

AMD 1.3Ghz cpu
Geforce3 Ti200
512MB DDR2100 RAM

But I will defenitely be getting another 512 stick of RAM come Christmas. Thanks for the heads up.

Thank you much. It is a huge upgrade, and I can't wait to load WoW on opening day =)

Enjoy the new rig, I agree with snoop in that 1 gig is good. Glad to see that you chose the single stick of 512, since you can always pop in another 512 stick in the future whenever you get more money or you want a performance boost. For now though, don't worry about it, but just keep that in mind as one of the first things you should look into if you want to improve performance in WoW

The peak memory usage for WoW appears to be ~370MB, so 512 should be fine assuming you don't run anything else at the same time.

I have read reports that EQ2 uses 1.5GB or more on high detail, but given experience with the 'efficiency' of EQ1 graphical programming that doesn't surprise me in the least.

last night we raided due to the last day of beta, I checked RAM, it was @ 790mb, so I would say 1 gig is a definite

I highly doubt that it takes up 1.5gig. You have a huge problem if it does.

Ditto on the gig of memory, it's a must for MMORPGs. Otherwise it looks fine. :)

Yeah, last night was amazing. I was on Test 6 and fought in battles from Hillsbrad to Ashenvale. My current PC was getting about 1 frame every 10 seconds with all those people and spell effects, it was nuts.

Hopefully my new system will fair much better =) But for raids, I will still be lagging until I snag another 512MB of RAM.

ram is one of the most important things in mmo, DO NOT skim on RAM. esp if you plan on upgrading just for WoW.

Roger that.
That's true of most modern games (War3, UT2k4, D3, etc....)

Neither :)
it's a MMORPG... online role playing/adventure.

Actually I'd say BOTH (but that's just me)
